ok im geting a skline and spending around $50,000 legalized on my skyline. i can get a 1000bhp R32 that has over 100k into it or a stock R34 but i can decide because one has looks and one has power. but i talked to a well respected import customized body shop and they told me they would sponsor my skyline and if i got the r32 be could put a r34 front clip (hood, fendrs, lights, ect.) and that we culd put r34 tail lights and a trunk and put on a custom wide body kit to blend it all together. so im leaning twords the R32 but just dont know how it will come out. please tell me what you would do.

I gotta raise the BS flag on this one.
I guess on the internet you can be who ever you want to be. If you have that much money, what do you do?

Lots of people make lots of money - just think back to 1999 to 2001 when thousands of high-tech executives made hundreds of thousands of dollars in a few months. Office managers were making from IPO and acquisitions payoffs $150,000 for just a few months of work. Executives made millions, and with less than 10% of the start-ups bankrupt, lots of the cash is still out there.
To me the above question is legit, and should apply to anyone looking into a new R34. This question should affect everyone buying a new car, as they can always get much more for their money by buying a used highly-modified car, instead of a stock new car.
I like the R34 and would prefer it it you are planning on owning the car long-term, as you will be starting with a clean platform on which to make your modifications. I don't like the idea of adding body panels as it diminishes from the originallity of a special car. Just think, how many Ferraris do you see with spoilers and body kits? If you start out with a high-end stock car, there is no need to make more than subtle body modifications as the car is special enough.
The R32 is a 10 year old car and will have significant wear and tear. IMHO the R34 is absolutely the way to go. Plus, for $12,000 (as mentioned on af.com) you can bring a stock R34 to 700 HP.

hey thanks blue for not being an ass hole like skylineusa any actually ints not any of your buissness what i do. and infact im not a millionare but have some loaded parents and am getting a loan for the car just like you would get if you bought one from motorex but im doing it myself. i think i will get an r34 but the r32 is verry clean and only has about 20,000 miles which is average-low miles for a car in japan. but i know im not going to be happy with a r32 so im leaning twords the r34

Sorry, I was not trying to be an asshole to you, 2000. Just does not seem copesetic with your writing style, and someone that has lots of cash to throw down on a GTR. Your writing style looks a lot like some punk kid trying to be someone he is not, no offense, just making an observation.
I do not think comparing a Ferrari to a Skyline is fair. One is hand made, the other is a mass market car. Veilside makes some sweet body kits. I don't think there is a big body kit market for Ferraris?

Hey GT-R2000,
Where is a good place to find used 1999 R34 GTR's in Japan? Do you have a web link to a good website (something similar to AutoTrader)?
MotoRex told me that in Califonia one can't import a new R34. It has to be at least 2 years old. Do you know anything about this, and does this only apply to cars that come through MotoRex?
Keep us posted on how the import process goes. Thanks in advance.

Try these guys... http://www.j-garage.com/index.html
The owner is very polite and responds to e-mails very quickly. He has a 2000 GT-R for sale right now for around 39,000. He can also work through motorex to get the car imported.
As for the not being able to import a car newer than 2 years old, how the hell did that Jeff guy import his 2002 GT-R V-Spec II Nur? I think it only applies importing the car for selling purposes. If you buy the car before it exports from japan, you should be ok (as long as the car is in your name when it is imported into the US).

Thanks NISMO23,
After all the back and forth on af.com regarding importing a GTR, i think that the course I will take is to import a car myself (the newest R34 I can find in Japan) and send it to MotoRex for a $25K conversion. This will mean that my out the door cost is about $65K, a lot less than the $95K to buy direct from MotoRex.
Also, by importing myself, I should be able to get newer car than by going through MotoRex for the entire transaction.
It would be great to get an explanation of why California registered GTRs need to be 2 years old. MotoRes said something about the California ARB. I would like to know for sure whether I can personally import to get away from this restriction.

If he goes through MotoRex, they will post the bond money. There is just a small premium he will have to pay based on the value of the car (around 250.00). Plus shipping, and the Customs tariff of 2.5% of the value of the car. I'm actually in the middle of importing my gt-r right now, I will get back with you guys on what kind of misc. stuff I had to pay.

I think you are making the best choice in your decision on how you will import your r34. You can't go wrong there. Just make sure that j's garage ships the car in a container. Greatly decreases the risk of theft and vandalism.
Again, I don't think you will have a problem importing a 2002 gtr if that's what you want. In a sense, you will be importing the gtr yourself and contracting Motorex to do the compliancing. If your not sure on the california registering issue, just ask Hiro at Motorex. He has always been helpful in answering my questions. I'm pretty sure the guy that has the 2002 nur, registered it in california (not sure). Good luck in getting your gtr. If you have any questions, I will be happy to fill you in on what I went through.:)

Thanks for the information.
I was searching on the web and found a lot of Japanese exporters. It is quite difficult to see who can be trusted, plus the condition of auctioned cars is set within ranges so it is unclear exactly how good a car is.
One thing I could do is just walk into a Nissan dealership in Japan and get a new one. Although production stopped in August, there probably will be cars available for sale for a few months.
it may even be worth a trip to Japan to hand pick the car; a $700 flight is not a lot compared to the costs of the car.
I will keep you guys posted as to how I proceed. Any information on what I need to do/pay to get the car imported myself is appreciated.
Cheers :)

Hey, I would recommend you go with J's garage in getting your GT-R. Yoshi san advertises cars for sale through a very reputable car company in Japan, Gulliver. They are the very same company I bought my r33 gt-r while being in Japan. The cars they sell are in top condition. When I bought my R33, it was like a new car. Here is a link to the gulliver used car adverisements for the Skylines in Japan: http://www2.221616.com/app/hanbai/zaikokekka4.jsp?search_type=S01&no=102037. It's all in Japanese, but it has nice pics. If you see a GT-R you like through Gulliver, I'm sure J's garage could get it for you. Let me know if you need anymore info. Save your money on the trip to Japan, these guys are very trustworthy, not corrupted like many companies in the US.:)

well ill have to change it because its not rite im 17 my bro did my profile. he was probably to high to do it right!:smoker2: . any way to protect it economy cali has the no importing cars over 2 yrs and unless you tick them there gonna send the car back to japan. motorex does this by importing it into nevada or another state than alows you to import new or newr than 2yrs old thats why most r34's here are 99's. theres no way ull find a new skyline there no more new ones until the new skyle comes out but those are gonna be $100,000. and yes j's garage is i good guy but he is over priced.i can realistically get a 99 gtr vspec for about $25,000. my dad calls his guys in japan, tells them what i want and they go to an auction or a dealer , ect and find me a really clean car. and there verry picky about condition to. and with the no so perfect economy and the exchange rate its about $1 us dollar to every $1.50us dollars worth of yen and some time its half and half so $20,000 dollars us will buy you a $40,000 dollar car if you see what im saying. yes ur right swidish about the 1000 hp thing. im thinking about just getting a right hand drive integra type r like my bro then selling it in a year or two and making some money so ill have a huge down pay ment. and then doing the 1000hp thing. but yeah and motorex is a rip off and i know what they do to import the car but i cant tell you what it is but it only costs 10k instead of 16-25k thats how they make all their money
SkylineUSA
09-22-2002, 02:39 PM
Its not really a rip off since they deal in low volume. I mean 25k is a lot, but they are the only RI, so they pretty much have the market cornered. Once another RI comes into play prices should drop a little, but not that much because of the low volume.

Thanks NISMO23 for the link and info and thanks GT-R2000 for clarifying the 2 year California BS rule. :D
I will give all this some more thought, but it seems like I will get a clean Bayside Blue R34 V spec from (either '99 or '00) and have MotoRex convert the car after I import it ($65K or less is relatively fair to pay for an R34 in the US, I just can justify $95K).
:D
If anyone knows the process and costs for importing, and which forms I will need, I am sure lots of people who visit this forum would be interested.

Scroll down to the bottom and you will see a bit about an “avatar”. Choose "custom avatar" and you can either upload directly from your PC or from a website but the pic can’t be any larger than 100x100 pixels. :)
