I'm a jackass

Well I'm a jackass. Last night following friends home I tried to take a left through a yellow light. Both cars ahead of me had already gone and I was being stupid and rather than just stopping I tried to get through it and not get seperated. So I accelerated for the turn, rather than stopping. And sure enough, I hydroplaned and couldn't get it going again before I curbed a wheel. One damn day before I have to drive 500 freaking miles for Christmas. I gotta jack it up and see if I damaged anything other than the wheel. Wheel has a huge dent in it which I could see last night, so I feel like a jackass and couldn't sleep much last night. I realize hindsight is 20/20 but I just keep kicking myself for trying that turn, rather than just stopping. Had a friend in the car at the time, so I'm sure he's semi-pissed and not exactly trusting my driving at this point in time. So yeah, all-around pretty pissed with myself right now.

Shit happens try not to sweat it. We've all done some dumb shit and than realized how stupid it was. My only speeding ticket i've ever gotten was because I was rushing..for absolutely no reason..I had the day off and wasn't going anywhere just headed home from the store. You can't kick yourself in the ass for it just stop for the light the next time.

Check for any sharp edges where the dent is if its up against the tire. I dented one of mine in a mall parking lot because some moron came straight at me at 30mph (in a crowded parking lot..smart huh) and I had to go up the curb lowered with rims, the dent was right up against the tire, next day I drove 120 miles to NY and ended up with a flat becuase it was rubbing the tire the entire time.

Well I jacked it up and peeped under it for a bit. Later I'm meeting up with a friend and we are putting it on a lift to get a better look. I don't think anything serious is damaged. Other than my wheel being wrecked, I may have gotten away with minimal problems. Other than a few scratches on the bottom of my bumper and intercooler.

But I still have no idea what the hell I'm doing to get to NY. If it checks out on the lift I may just try and drive it until the tire blows, and then swap on teh donut and drive the rest. Or I can take a bus up, and have my gf pick me up from my family's place and then drive me home a few days later. Either way, I sense is going to be a PITA.

I'm trying desperately to get a freaking wheel by tomorrow, but having no luck so far. This freaking blows. And it's not liek I can jsut toss on a steelie from a junkyard because my damn calipers are so big.

Oh man, that doesn't even compare to some of the dumb things i have done. Don't sweat it, that's nothing.

Dizamn. Everybody plays the fool sometimes. Reminds me of the time I spun my car out and over a curb while speeding through my favorite curvy back road. Unexpected spill of dirt on the road screwed me royally. Hopefully your car doesn't feel the reprocussions of it years later like mine :(

Cant the wheel be repaired? Have you called a few wheel repair places?

The issue is probably time, being a weekend and christmas on monday, means most places won't be open or will have reduced hours saturday, crapshoot on sunday, and nothing open on monday, and he wants to drive his car home for the holiday. I'd feel the same way if I did something like that and would spend some time beating myself up for doing it. Either that or I would go out and destroy the car and the curb I hit, but that's a temper for you.

Wheel damage only? Not likely. Get your alignment checked.
