OK- I apoligise in advance for the language- BUT I NEED TO VENT!!!!!

So heres the story- 2 weeks ago I went into the Quay St. AA (Automobile Association) office (First big mistake) Go up to the counter to book in my Restricted lisence practical test, the bitch at the counter says that it only goes up to the 19th I siad- what day is that- she says and I quote- FRIDAY- so I said allright- I'll take that day at 4:00 and paid my $88.20 (2nd big mistake- too much money for something so small).

I come into the office today the 20th- the last Friday of the school term as I know it and the lady at the counter (A different one) and she informs me that I was supposed to do it YESTERDAY (Thursday)- But I said that I was told to do it on Friday- she being the turd she is said- "Well we put you as a no-show- Which means you will have to pay a re-taking the test fee" (Which is 70-od FUCKING dollars)- I smiled and told her to get fucked- she handed me a re-application form I ripped it up and and shoved it back at her and stormed out.

So what happens now - I am entitled to apply to have the re-test free- after all it is because of THIER incompetence- However should this fail I have a witness (My dad) who was with me and my step-sister is a top lawyer- Hence I may have a case for the small-claims court (hopefully)- Where I will take back my $88.20- but government paid judges will stick with thier fellow government agency :(- MY parents have also threatened to cancel thier (rather expensive ) AA membership's so they have more to lose on that count

Hence- here is me stuck in a sticky situation because of one stupid bitches incompetence

I wouldn't go all out on this, because she is going to flatly say the 19th, and that, will have all the weight. Maybe you could take it to small claims for the money issue, after all, you were told Friday. But I think the rest of the stuff about cancelling is a little too much over this. The only advice I offer is, next time, be more careful and try to get things down in writing, it's harder to argue something in writing.:)

The moral of the story is "Don't believe what they say!" You'll be prepared to watch the calendar for yourself and not go by the guesses you're bound to hear again. I am glad that it sounds like its going to work out though.

Well actually it wasn't really WIN/WIN, the bastards still got 140 bucks off you and your Dad.

I know when you might not take this advice but here's a little (use if you wish, ignore it if you want). When you deal with incompetent folk, don't get mad (though you just want to beat the crap or scream with frustration). Try to be very calm and smile.

Then ask to see their supervisor, if they don't respond then repeat your request. This normally works, if it doesn't take a piece of paper and a pen and tell them that you are taking their name, making a note of the time, place and date.

Tell them you tired of being ignored and you want to speak to their supervisor - tell them it's a reasonable request you just want to speak to their supervisor. If this is ignored then you just wait at the counter, if they try and talk to someone else in the queue. Say very slowly and loudly: "All I want to do is see your Supervisor, that is a reasonable request for a customer. Why won't you let me see a supervisor?"

This will usually cause enough of a disruption that someone in charge (ie the supervisor will intervene).

When you do see the supervisor, be very specific with time, dates, names. Be calm and tell them that you were misinformed by the employee. If the employee tells them that they told you the Friday, look very surprised. Say excuse me. Say it again if you have to but make sure everyone else pauses.

And say (don't let them interrupt you, put up a hand, even repeat sentences when you are interrupted..."With the greatest respect, I am the customer. And I as the customer have only had one transaction here and I remember it distinctly that she said to me that the appointment was Friday. Now I understand that you may think you said Thursday the 19th to me - but you have many customers to deal with everyday, and I find it odd that amongst the several hundered customers that you dealt with over the last week that you would remember our dealings so distinctly. Even more distinctly than me as a customer with one single transaction.

I appreciate that we may have had an honest mistake here and I as a customer am not here to assign blame here - but I do remember I was told that this appointment was Friday. This is an important appointment for me as your customer - it's clear that we can't turn back time but can we sort this out without pointing fingers at each other?"

Try it next time. It might not work but you'd have a better chance of getting them to give you another time that losing it.

Moss, it's time for me to share.

The first time I went for my license I blew the tyre on the 3 pt. turn (not going into that...) When I tried to change it, wouldn't come off. Rang NRMA and waited 45 FUCKING MINUTES for them to kick the wheel a couple of times (they stick to the brakes apparantly) and take it off. Mounting curb is automatic fail, but I still had to get back to the RTA. I screeched outside tyres and did about 25+ the speed limit all the way back. The guy nearly made me stop and let him drive I was soooo pissed. The second time, I GOT THE SAME GUY...AND MY LICENSE! I love people that understand.
