Hi, I just purchased a Japanese Import 2001 Mazda MPV and I noticed that when I slow down to stop the van surges. At first I thought it might be the auto choke this happens even after the car has warmed up.
Any ideas please http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/images/icons/icon5.gif

you might have a vaccume leak. pop the hood and check to see any rubber hose have a hole in it. you might be able to hear the hissing sound. the hose
is hard to see it's need the throttle body on the right and below.

Thanks mazdatekchubyninja.
I checked out the area but cant see or hear anything. The surge can be quite hard and could easily move the van forward into another vehicle so I want to sort this.

The leak would occure at the pvc hose. I'm not sure which motor you have 2.5L or the 3.0L. If its the 3.0L the hose is on the back of the intake. When the car is cold reach to the back of the intake from the left side and fell for a rubber 90 degree elbo/hose, the leak will be at the elbo(it will have a small hole or fell collapsed) The elbo and hose should be 1/2 inch round above it is a cap of some sort. The hose cost around 75 dollors and is held on by a hose clamp on the intake and is slid on hose joint new/ below the intake air boot.
If your car is still under warrenty take it in. If is a 2.5L Look at the intake air boot and toward the firewall. Slightly below the intake is a couple rubber hoses check those. What you have is a vaccume leak some where. Try using carburator cleaner and spray around that area and the intake and you will notice the engine chug and will helf you fine the leak(oh have a fire extinguisher handy) Post me a way to contact you personal or an email address.
