I don't know about a recall, don't remember seeing one pertaining to your issue, there may have been a couple of service bulletins issued on it though... you can probably find out by searching a site like Alldata, probably at least get the tsb numbers and check with the dealer,, unless you want to pay for a subscription and get the full details..

Thats what they called it . . ."service bulletin issue" #98B26 wherein there was a heater bypass hose and water pump modification. Anybody with heater problem should look at this . . . . ill check it out with the dealer Monday and repost what i find.

Keep in mind though that a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) is not the same as a recall. A recall is usually for a safety item and will be implemented by the dealer at no charge to the consumer (assuming the vehicle still falls within the parameters of the recall). A TSB is a known fix for a common issue, but the dealer does not need to implement the TSB and does not need do it at no charge.

Back in the Day there was a kit that was available free of charge for the Brown Coolant problem.

It included

Chemical FLush

Bypass hose

Grounding strap to ground the heater core to the block

Also suggested for this procedure was a new water pump but I don't think it was free.

I called Ford a year os so ago because my 99 was having problems with it and they told me it only went up to a 98.

I had serious brown coolant issues until I replaced the waterpump as part of the flushing procedure.

My 99 had the grounding strap and the bypass hose but still had the brown coolant problem.
