I had a good glad I did that moment this morning. We got hit with snow last night. and now its probably less than 20 degress outside

But my moment happened 2 days ago I put a new battery in cause my old one only had 300 CCA and tested bad.

If I had my old battery still, i'd be one unhappy camper :)

anyone else have moments like these?

My car's original transmission, a TH2004R, was showing signs of battle scarring from months of abuse by a 350 lb. ft. torque 350, and was slipping quite a bit. I drove the car to a friend's house to replace the trans with a 700R4. While at his house, I attempted to drive the car up onto ramps, and that's when the 2004R finally failed. We had to jack it up and use jackstands.

What'd it do specifically when the tranny died?

Well, it started climbing up the ramps, got halfway up, engine revved to about 3500, car didn't go any further, once smoke started coming up I gave up on it.

On the drive over, it got really bad with the slipping - to the point where I was afraid that if I got a red light, I'd have to push it off and have my friend come tow me to his house. It didn't surprise me that it wouldn't make it up the ramps, but I did find it a little humorous.

The last week of its life, it started dying a slow death. It was going into 'neutral' between shifts, engine flaring up when starting the car moving from a stop, things of that nature. The fluid was pretty dark, almost black.

i was getting ready to head out on to the highway for a trip. right before the exit i stopped to get gas (the idea was to compute highway mileage) and check my tires. when i walked around to the back of the car to put the gas in, i noticed that there was a section of tread missing. about the size of my hand. i just suspected that one of the weights had flown off.

Hey Grey, is that a photoshop job, or are the door handles really shaved on your car?

Not sure if this falls in to the right place but it is car related and it was a glad I did moment.I've got a 90 Suburban 4x4 sportin 31's and my wife has an 88 s-10 slammed hard,it was late fall last year and one of the lids had a evening thing she had to get to,it was dark, cold and raining. For some dumb ass reason I told the wife to take the big truck and she whined about the gas but i told here so what. When they came back home about a half hour late they where both white as ghost's.Just a few miles from home on the way back a 10 point 200 lb buck had bolted up out of the deep ditch and she didn't even have time to hit the brakes.Needless to say when he bounced off the front end of the 7200lb truck it was to late for him to change his mind, maybe because it was hanging out of his ass.Can you imagine, what if she took the lowered s-10?I try real hard not to think of that part.

Gotta love those Chevy Trucks! Reminds me of a similar incident I had .It was March 1995 and I was on my way to work at 5 am in my "almost new"( bought it new just 9 mos. earlier.) 1994 C1500 pickup. I was toolin' along a country road at 60 mph when all of the sudden a deer jumped out in front of me. I slammed on the brakes and hit him quite hard. He literally bounced off the front of the truck and laid in the road. I got out and at the same time another truck pulled up behind me who saw the whole thing. As I got to the front of the truck to see what damage there was,the deer suddenly got up and limped off into the woods. The other guy was amazed that the only damage to my truck was a small crack in the big Chevy emblem on the grill, and a bunch of fur around my front license plate. Later that day I stopped at the dealer to have the body shop take a quick look to see if there was any other unseen damage. The manager said that if it had been about 15 degrees colder,(it was 35 outside,) the grill could've shattered, (it was one of those plastic heavy duty grills Chevy used to advertise in their work truck commercials back then, the ones that could stand up to a lot of use and abuse.) He said I should've been in one of those commercials touting the aspects of the grill seeing how well it stood up to a deer at that speed. Like a rock.

^ good story.

when i first read it, for some reason, i read JEEP instead of DEER...
didnt really make sense until i read it again.
i once was in a parking garage and misjudged a turn (second day driving the caprice) and ended up with the bumper a few feet up on the wall, and the one front wheel just barely still on the ground. i'm not sure how it got up this far, but the wall was slanted, so that might explain it. anyway, i backed it down. turns out the only damage was a big scrape in the chrome on the bumper. nothing else.
love these big cars.
