This is for those of you who may be thinking your kit wheels look a bit small...
1/1 scale 1/24 scale
17" 17.99mm
18" 19.05mm
19" 20.10mm
20" 21.16mm
21" 22.22mm
Please remember that for ease model companies may round up/down the measurements i.e 17" = 17.99mm = 1.8cm. 18" = 19.05mm = 1.9cm. etc
sorry but I was sooo bored at work today!

Which just proves that even though we all build 'scale models' the companies use a bit of 'artistic licence' as some things when scaled down don't look right so the designers make them look right even if it buggers up the scale!!

They are 18"...and the kit rims are correct. Go out and measure a 1:1 wheel sometime, and you will find that it is usually 1-2" larger in diameter than the official size. The extra amount is in the lip itself that holds the tire in place. The wheel size on a real car is actually the inner diameter of the tire itself, and we all know you can't see the inner tire opening because it is hidden by the visible retaining lip on the wheel. So that is the apparent discrepancy-and it is also why countless wheels by model manufacturers are incorrectly sized and too small, because they are measuring to the outside lip, without considering that that measurement should be 1-2" larger in diameter. Very frustrating to think that some prominent model companies haven't figured this out yet.

That's why Fujimi's Enthusiast 911 wheels look too small, because they accurately scaled down. Later, they released the Real Sports with the same body, but the wheels were enlarged.
Tamiya has been altering dimensions for quite a while, and it's even documented in Mr. Tamiya's book, that a model would look awkward when it's accurately scaled down, because of different view points.

this thread is kind of old, but just wanna make some updates.
1. TE37 volks - I am wondering the TE37 comes with the Aoshima Cappacino is 17" or 18"? are they using Fujimi products or Aoshima produces by themselves?
http://www.1999hobbysearch.com/dbimages/user/hobby/itbig/10027397.jpg
2. Advan RG - similar question on this, are Aoshima using Fujimi products or Aoshima produces by themselves? 17" or 18"? any actually photo or can someone measure the diameter for me? it seems the JunAuto prelude kit is the same as the Fujimi Prelude. (i.e. I built the Fujimi few years ago, and the manual on hobbysearch looks familar to me.

I cannot believe Fujimi makes so EXTRA large rims......I think the AVS5 are just 17"......damn I think this will be on my next order list.

1. They're more like 15 in. It's very small, and only good on K-cars or some 1/25 scale kit. Adding two TE37 from Fujimi, there are three sizes total.
2. Hobby Search manual clearly shows that they are completely different. There are no sharing between them, as both are still in business.
Here's Aoshima Advan RG
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/670033P1220015.JPG
It's 20.5 mm, so it's 19.37 inch scale size.
Aoshima's Model 5 is sharper, but slightly smaller than Fujimi's.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/353964P1220005.JPG
It's also 20.5 mm or 19.37 inch scale size.

This is the rare case where the Fujimi rim looks better than the Aoshima rim. The Aoshima rim is sharper in detail, but the finish/appearance of the Fujimi version just looks perfect. And I thought you couldn't get much better than the AVS from Aoshima...let's hope Fujimi does more of these kinds of "proper sized" and nicely styled wheels.
I'm using the Aoshima AVS 5's on my Fujimi F355...I haven't tried the Fujimi rims on it yet, I'm using trim rings to make the rears wider and I have to adjust the rear suspension for track width. I better check the Fujimi rims, maybe they'll work better and require less monkeying w/the suspension.

is it the concensus that fujimi 17 inch wheels are just too small on a scale model? i just bought the enkei rp-f1 wheels from hlj. didn't know they were 17 inchers... from the box, they look great on the actual greddy rx7. it was meant for an rx7 i have but the tires are just way too thick. any comments on wheels this size or does everyone here just more or less stay away from 17 inchers completely?

a. Basically, Fujimi SUCKS!!! :( They fool us by giving us great box art but screw us on the contents! I think some cars look ok with 17" wheels and have a few sets myself but I prefer Aoshima when it comes to 18" wheels. Every once in a rare while, Fujimi gets it right like with their Advan Model 5s as seen on SpoonManDos' recently completed Supra; Fujimi's version actually looks better than Aoshima's version of the same wheel!

I found this post while doing a little research on wheel selection for my Civic. This a fine example of the wealth of knowledge here at AF and deserves a bump back to the front of the line IMO.
