What year and engine does your Explorer have?
The sensor will likely be mounted in the air filter housing. The PCM is the powertrain control module (ie: main engine computer). Before replacing that, you will certainly want to perform some troubleshooting.

I suggest you begin by making sure the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor is properly connected. If it is, then check the end that is in the air stream for apparent damage. If it does not appear damaged, then use a multimeter to check the sensor for open circuit. If not, see if the resistance is in specification. If so, then you'll need to check the wiring between the IAT and the PCM.
If this does not make any sense to you, then I suggest you get a good service manual if you are interested in increasing your knowledge of the vehicle, or take it to a professional.
