abs sensor

I am trying to remover the front abs sensor on a 1999 trooper , to replace the cv boot. I have every thing ready to come off but I can't get the sensor off of the spindle. Any suggetions ? Thanks

Remove sensor cable fixing bolt (Upper side).

Remove the speed sensor (http://library.alldatapro.com/alldata/LIB~C33394~R0~OD~N/0/70910848/78536390/78536607/78536609/34853741/34857029/56218937/62684665) cable fixing bolts (1) and caliper fixing bolt (2) from caliper side speed sensor cable bracket (3).INSPECTION AND REPAIR


Check the speed sensor (http://library.alldatapro.com/alldata/LIB~C33394~R0~OD~N/0/70910848/78536390/78536607/78536609/34853741/34857029/56218937/62684665) pole piece for presence of foreign materials; remove any dirt, etc.
Check the pole piece for damage; replace speed sensor (http://library.alldatapro.com/alldata/LIB~C33394~R0~OD~N/0/70910848/78536390/78536607/78536609/34853741/34857029/56218937/62684665) if necessary.
Check the speed sensor (http://library.alldatapro.com/alldata/LIB~C33394~R0~OD~N/0/70910848/78536390/78536607/78536609/34853741/34857029/56218937/62684665) cable for short or open circuit, and replace with a new one if necessary. To check for cable short or open, bend or stretch the cable while checking for continuity.
Check the sensor ring for damage including tooth chipping, and if damaged, replace the sensor ring assembly.INSTALLATION

Before you remove the sensor, spray some PB Blaster around it to make it easier to remove.

Remove the screw in the back of the sensor. I had to use a pair of lock pliers, since the hex 5.5 was too small and the 6 was too big.
Once the screw is off, get a long socket that will fit around the metal tip and gently start to hit the socket to move the sensor out the back. Be careful not to bang the metal tip of the sensor. The socket should be resting on the hard plastic part of the sensor, not the metal tip.

When I worked on removing my front diff, I had to remove both speed sensors from the front hubs. Using PB Blaster makes a big difference.

Thanks for the info . I will try the socket .Thought about doing that earlier but Ididn't want to damage the sensor

My ABS light just started coming on occasionally and I notice that I am having trouble starting. Battery power is real low before starting, with a new battery. Can the ABS cause this to happen or should I be looking at something else? Thanks.

Hi, I am far from being a pro, but I don't know of any reason the abs would drain the battery unless the brake actuator pump was running while the vehicle is off. When the ABS light illuminates it means that the ABS is unavailable but that the regular brakes are still operational. A code is usually set in the brake module memory, and is stored even when the light turns off. I attach the instruction to see if there is a code stored in your vehicle. If you get a code, post it and maybe someone else will be able to zero in on what is going on. Good luck
