Disconecting the ABS system

97' Blazer LT. Winter is soon upon me here in the midwest. Is it ok to disconect the ABS from the front wheels, just for the winter months. There always a pain in snow with them "pumping" when you apply the brakes even the slightest amount. Just want to get some feed back on this. Thanks.

easiest thing to do is just pull the ABS fuse from the fuse box located on the drivers side of the dash to deactivate the system.

Thanks.......so I take it there's no real concern over disconnecting it?

just that you will slide more in the rain and snow if you stomp on the pedal.

I'll take my chances...........I can't stand that pulsating pedal in the snow!! Thanks much for the advice.

Yeah. Whatever happened to the operator being in control of the vehicle? Even the throttle is no longer directly controlled in some vehicles. And the seat belts wrap around automatically, and the lights turn on even if you don't want them on, and the wipers turn on themselves, and the headlights dims automatically, and the rear view mirror goes autochromic dark, and some even park themselves.
Rides like that? We USED TO call that a "taxi" in most places. Just more items that make us less responsible for our own actions, I suppose.
Just be aware that the ABS modulator could possibly stop in a position where it would impede brake fluid flow in either direction. They are not supposed to, but it is theoretically possible. Think about what that might do.

if it makes you feel any better - myself and just about any one i know who drives log trucks up here in canada , pulls the abs fuse and that goes for my jimmy as well - far too many times a the abs kicks in in the slippery muck and actually makes a dangerous situation by increasing stopping distances unnecessarily - abs gives drivers false hope - if your driving too fast in the snow ,abs or not your gonna eat bumper. having said that .. i should point out that if you were to get into a relatively severe accident that warranted an inspection of your truck - the pulled fuse might not go over so well when they decide who was more at fault - just be ready to plug er back in before you pass out ..:evillol:

Anyone disconnecting their ABS on a brake system designed for ABS is looking for a lawsuit.
If you get in an accident and they find the ABS disconnected you will be charged and fined and will be open for a huge lawsuit that won't be covered by your insurance.
No human can brake as good as an ABS system will allow and anyone thinking they are better off without it don't have a clue what they are talking about.
ABS has saved me several times.

Dissconecting the ABS would be foolish as the braking system is designed around it. If you're getting pulsing on a regular basis, you have problem with your brakes or you're doing something wrong, either way i wouldn't want you behind me in the snow. I have never needed ABS ever. Mine is broken so I turned the warning lights off by unplugging it. BlazerLT is right though it could potentially turn into a lawsuit.

I just can't stand lazy people that will ignore a problem and avoid it and endanger other motorists.
Fix the problem......

Since we've cracked open the topic of ABS, traction control, and stability control, does anyone but me find it odd that police still try to measure skid marks when reconstructing an accident scene? Did I miss something?

If your talking about me I wouldnt say I was ignoring it. I just dont want to spend 2000 dollars fixing something that for one is worth more than the car, and two wasnt a standard on cars 10 years ago anyway. If it were newer I would fix it........
