My life rant

so up untill about a week ago i thought my life was going pretty good. I had a good gf, a nice apartment, a nice car, a decent job, and i was going to school. Money between me and my GF was tight, but we managed to get along, then her car needed some work. I thought it was just a bad belt, turns out the front wheel bearings needed to be replaced, bam 500 dollar bill. So we do the math and decide we can pay the money, we will just have to live a little tight for the month. Which sucks cause i really had my eye on a nice 46 gallon aquarium for my turtles. But i guess i could put it off for a month or so.

THen yesterday my GF calls me at like 9AM in the morning, i was in class and she knows that, she never calls me while im in class. So assuming something was wrong, i take the call. SHe rearended someone on her way to work, so i rush out of class and drive down to detroit to pick her up. Car looks totalled, air bags go off, front end is smashed in. Shes fine, expect for some bruising. Luckily the cop was in a good mood and didnt write her a ticket, thank you police for once in my life you werent a pain in my ass. Car gets towed to a dealership, progressive looks at the car and says its totalled. Well being on the tight budget we were on, we had a 1,000 dollar deductable, SHIT! but wait its okay progressive is going to give us about 1,000 bucks more than what we owe on the car. But then the guy tells me for some reason i dont have fucking torque insurance. WTF I KNOW I WOULDNT DENY THAT COVERAGE!! if you dont know what that is, in michigan we have nofault laws, meaning your insurance pays for your damage regardless for who is at fault. But if your at fault, the other person can come after you for up to a 500 dollar deductable. So now if the person she hits makes a claim, i have to pay her deductable. Fucking great. . .
Now we need to find her a new car, but thats getting hard because shes gonna need a loan, which means full coverage insurance, which is going to be really expensive now. So im taking apart my old car the cavalier that she smashed so we can sell the supercharger for a downpayment. All this with less than 2 months before christmas, and in feburary our lease is up on the apartment. Im gonna have zero money to spend for the next few months, my credit card bills are getting really high because of school. I think once the lease runs out, we both might have to move home with our parents. Its just to expensive and were not making enough.

Sometimes life just sucks. . .

i was watching masterminds last night and i think that may work for u, u could dig an underground tunnel under a bank vault, hold the bank hostage, then escape throught the vault floor with millions, goodluck..... jk lol, maybe your, or her parents could help you out in this hardtime. or maybe you could get a personal loan, and buy a car cash and not have to get "full" coverage, altho u might want it after that incident. if u get a personal loan, get a few grand more than the car u want, then u could catch up on other bills. u could also blow off ur credit card companies and claim bankruptsy!lol

Here's my 2 cents. Don't get into any more debt by buying another car that requires payments. You can find good used cars for as little as $1000. Look at xceedspeed.com for ones that are available in your area.

How much more do you have until you're done with school?

well ill be cisco certified come the end of the winter semester. Which if i can find a decent job should start me out at about twice as much as im making now. She wont be done with school untill 2008, shes gonna be an accountant atleast thats her minor, so she will only have an associates.

We need to buy a car thats reliable, and i worry about the reliability of a cheap cars, they are usually cheap for a reason. She works in detroit, i dont want her stuck on side of I75 or M10. Shit i get scared going into detroit.

Personal loans are a bad idea, the interest rate is usually much higher than a credit card. I could ask my parents for money but im to proud to do that.

Im gonna go buy a lotto ticket

Dizamn. I know how you feel about the hesitance to ask parents for money, but sometimes you gotta get over your pride. I had to learn that the really hard way. And really I'm still learning my lesson. But if you're gonna end up moving back in with mom, then how is that better than asking for a lil help?

Seriously man, I agree with others who are telling you to get a beater for $1000 instead of the loan/expensive insurance option. You'll bounce back much quicker financially if you just get a shitter for a few months.

In addition to your Cisco certification, have you considered any other IT exams? If you know enough about the topic, it's a simple matter of read the book one day and study, take the exam the next day. Repeat a couple of times for each qualification.

try to spend as little as possible. pasta is cheap. drive slow to save gas. buy the beater just to have until you bounce back from this then get rid of it and buy a real car.

good luck it'll be hard but not impossible

god damn it just when i thought shit couldnt get anyworse i does.

So we get her a car, find a nice slightly used 2006 Saturn Vue, 28,000 miles. 13,500 the dealer wanted, which was a steal. KBB and NADA value the car at over 18,000. To be sure, i did a carfax report, came back clean, no accidents, flood damage, fire damage, or anything. Only thing in the report was oil changes. Buy the car, my gf has the car for less than 12 hours and IT FUCKING BREAKS DOWN!! Electrical problems up the ass. So now its at the dealer, less than 24 hours after buying it having warranty work done on it.

Does it get any worse?

looks like it wasnt safety inspected, i would ask about that, plus u have a used car 30 day warranty, if it is messed up, i think u could back out of the deal...

The car should still be under the original factory warranty.

it is still under warranty, and it was certified. Dealer called back today and said it was a dead battery, just had some really weird shit going on. I think it might have been a combination of dead batter, loose battery cables.

The car would turn over, but as soon as it would start it would die. If you held the gas down you could keep the car running. But as soon as you took your foot off the gas, it would stall. The power doors wouldnt work, the lights in the car wouldnt turn off, and the headlights were dimm and flickering.

I hope it was just a battery. . .and not something thats gonna happen again.
