okay so im tryin to get to work today and the speed limit is 55mph and im doin 50 like everyone else, and there is this undercover cop next to, so i dnt pay much attention to him since im not doin anything wrong. The car infront of the cop is doin like 45mph so the cop switches lanes and is behind me, im still doin 50mph in a 55mph and after 35 seconds i see red n blue lights in my rearview mirror, so i thought the cop was tryin to get somewhere n i was in the left lane so i moved to the right and so did he, n im like WTF! so i pulled over, and gets out n comes up to my window and this is how the conversation went:

Cop: Hi, how are you doing sir?
Me: Im doing good, how about you?
Cop: Good, where is your front license plate?

in my head i was confused, like wat did he say

Me: Wat was that officer?
Cop: Where is your front license plate, i didnt see it.
Me: NO SHIT DUMBASS U WERE BEHIND ME, u cant see it! < i should have said that lol

Me: My plates are in the front
Cop: can you show me

so i get out n show him

Cop: oh i didbt see them, you need to take those covers off, they are illegal
Me: oh ok

so i start to head back to my car....

Cop: Sir, can ni see your license insurance n registration...

that right there pissed me off, cuz now im gonna be late to work over a cop bein blind n not seein my plate....smh

so i give it to him n takes a while in the patrol car n comes back n says ur all set sir, have a nice day

Me: thanks

wasted a good 15 minutes...all cuz he couldnt see from the back of my car :screwy:

anyways yea....but i thought cops cant pull u over for license plates, arent they a secondary offense?

Yes, if it is a violation, they can pull you over.

Like if you come on AF and don't read the guidelines but still join - by joining you agree to abide by them so we can ban you for not following them....weird isn't it.

Out here they call it obstructed plate or some crap like that. They will even bust you if you have snow (of all things) covering one of your plates. Gee, officer, I didn't notice it was snowing out, so i didn't clear my front plate. Got bagged for that one in a snowstorm a few years ago.

if you can't tell whether or not it is snowing, you shouldn't be driving, especially if it was a "snowstorm".

He got me for obstructed front plate. I kinda figured it was covered, seeing as how it was snowing, but wasn't about to stop to clean it off with a 3 hour ride ahead of me. When I got pulled over, I was about half done with the trip, so it would have been covered regardless. Along with the rest of the front of the car.

Cops can pull you over even if they think you're in violation or have "reason" to suspect suspicious activity. I've been pulled over in the suburbs for license plate violations and tint violations (even though mine aren't dark) many times.
