Flaws in AF

AF is my bible, but sometimes when a moderator undermines my well thought out posts more than once, or when the members in the 240sx forum give me some bullshit answer and then say it's my fault for asking the question...I get mad.
The mod in question, he (that narrows it down huh?) totally ignores when I try to bring facts to the table, because his facts are better, but he's so calm and collected when I'm arguing with him, it's creepy.
The 240sx forum, this isn't recent but I just remembered it and got pissed off. I asked them how much torque my car could possibly handle, including reinforcing it with aftermarket parts, and I finally got the answer of "it should be able to handle 600hp, not that much torque, then it'll break." but I didn't get this simple asnwer until they told me that my question was impossible to answer, that people could put 100,000 dollars into engineering parts for it, some asses decided to mess up my thread buy saying they're going to build a 240 powered by a rocket..in reverse, i don't care if the joke is funny, i'm being serious and you're giving me bullshit answers.

The guy in your quote is wrong. Flat-plane V8's have worse balance and are more vibratory. But other than that, yeah they are freaking cool.
Anyway. You gotta keep in mind that this *is* and internet forum and that you have to take everything with a grain of salt. Most internet forum junkies are very "holier than thou" and will never admit they're wrong. Only when you have an arsenal of date to backup your claims they might. But even then they'll get pissed at you and say that it has nothing to do with what you're actually discussing.
About the 240 guys, i found most of them are pretty dumb. Sell it and get an RX-7, you'll be better off :D. But seriously, think of the demographics of 240 owners and you'll get your answers. The same with most 'cheap' sportscars clubs... they're filled with kids that don't know their ass from their elbows when it comes to the physics of cars. The best thing you can do is research it yourself from reputable sources, combine it with knowledge of physics and come to your own conclusions. The only REAL way to know is to test it, but i think you'll find that your transmission will probably be able to hold quite a bit of torque before it breaks.

Funny you should say that, I just opened up a sports car club with a bunch of cheap ass sports car members, hoping facts don't become lost in translation.
I plan on selling the 240 soon, i can't stand it being a 4cylinder any longer, and it doesn't feel stable at high speeds. But it's totally stock so the value is up there. If you have a problem with a mod, I suggest you PM them before bringing it up publicly. Life here is easier that way... believe me.
Its hard to deal in absolutes when talking about tolerances for your car. Each car is different and generalizations can be made only if you give specific parameters. Asking broad, open-ended questions will definitely get you shitty answers or wise cracks.
Steel is correct, this is the internet and there are plenty of people on AF and elsewhere with misinformation, but labeling all 240 owners as dumb just provides a spark for a flame war.

I kid i kid, i just need to rag on 240 owners cause i'm a 7 guy. Same thing with supra owners. Or anything that uses pistons and cams and valves and such...It's all in good fun.

another piston hater ey? once u go rotory, u never go back. altho i feel the supra and 300zx's are still the closest contenders..... but back to the subject, there is no answer to ur question, just guestamates.... u could probably find a 240 specific forum where people actually have their rides puching 500 hp or so..... the rx7 forum here is weak, but teamfc3s has people way more knowledgable than me, and they have helped me with alot of problems i have faced....

240..bleh...and to rotaries...I enjoy having my car start in winter. Most of the import forums here are full of noobs asking questions like "why can't I drift my sentra?". I know all the civic folks left for the most part or realized that civics arent dragsters and moved to faster cars. w/e

I have had some abrasive dealings in that section myself but once you get to know a few of the guys they aren't so bad but I agree with the fact that there is alot of misinformation passed around by some of the not so informed members of that section.
BTW, our no linking other forums rule came from the laxed method being abused and used for site owners, mods and members just joining to spam links but I think we have enough knowledgable members on AF to provide answers to most questions that can be asked about auto's.

my GXL started in -20F no problems. It almost stalled out when i let the clutch out because the tranny oil was so thick. Oh yeah, the coolant was frozen and wasn't circulating, so i had to shut the car down to let the coolant thaw before driving it some more. I had forgotten to put more antifreeze in the mix earlier in the winter (i was running probably 70% water). That was a fun day. But the car started fine.
Another time when my roommate and i wanted to get some smokes, it was only -10 out and blowing. We froze near to death to get to my car, and again it started fine (but was none too happy about being woken up at 1am for a smoke run at that temperature!). Again, the motor dropped about 400 rpms when i let the clutch out. Anyway, we ran to the store left it running while at the store, got smokes some hot chocolate and such and drove back. The temp gauge didnt even budge in the 20 minutes I had that car running. That's called SCARY cold.
I hate this part of the country :(

My friend called me from Philly last winter telling me how this guy he knows had a shatty old cavalier and it was overheating, so the guy poured like 2 gallons of cold water into the radiator. It was like 5 degrees in Philly that day. Needless to say, everything was frozen the next time he tried to start the car... pure genius.

Yeah, the way *I* figured it out was like this: that morning me and my buddy ran outside to start out cars and let them warm up for a few before taking off. We started our cars and ran back inside... minus 20 is FUCKING cold. So after about 10 minutes we decide to go. WE drive and after about 1 minute, i notice my temp gauge reading at normal. Which is not normal. After a nother minute it starts shooting up to H. i was thinking to myself "WTF! theres no way the motor can overheat this quick in weather like this! Not even with nuclear fusion!" So i shut the car off and coasted the next 2 miles to to gas station (REALLY long hill).
In all my brilliance i decide to take off the radiator cap to see what was going on. FOOOSH! i had coolant all over my face... but... luckily for me, it was just barely warm coolant (with a couple of ice chunks in there). That's when i figured out what was going on. After cleaning myself off i filled it back up with straight coolant which worked itself out to be a nice 70-30 mix, and my car was fine.
