I just bought a 95 yj with 4 L and 5 speed trans. I can start it in gear and it jumps forward. I assumed the previous owner disabled the clutch saftey switch, the one that prevents the engine from turning over if the clutch is not pushed in, I've had them on other cars right back to 1978. I looked in the manual wiring diagrams and cant see that they ever used one in the first place. Can anyone confirm this? And if there is one, where the hell is it. Thanks in advance.

Why? Wives all over the world drive YJs. Once she knows not to start it in gear without pushing the clutch in, she'll be fine. It'll jump forward once on her and she'll know from then on, just like you. Most people that drive stickshifts instinctively know to push the clutch in anyways. Why would it be any different for a wife driving a YJ.
Reminds me of when I went to bootcamp. One of the recruits didnt want a top bunk because he was affraid of falling out. The drill instructor asked him (not in a nice manner) if he had ever fallen out of his bed at home. The recruit said "no". The DI said "so why the **** would you start falling out now".
Same with the clutch safety switch. If she drives a stick, she probably already instinctively pushes the clutch to start it, otherwise it wouldnt start. So why would she stop pushing the clutch to start it now.

It should have one.
They just renamed it.
It is now called a clutch pedal position switch.
Mounted on top of brake pedal bracket.

okay kids, settle down, I have to get the emergency brake fixed under the recall, the part inside the jeep. If I want to park both rigs in the driveway, it is very close. If she parks behind the 04 caravan, she may hit it. If it is parked in front of the garage door, she may hit that, and its not my garage door. When you bounce back and forth from automatic with steering wheel shifter and manual with floor mounted five speed, its bound to happen, I just won't let her drive it until the e'brake is fixed.

Its confusing. The FSM says there is a clutch pedal position switch but Ive had my YJ all apart and dont have one and the owners manual states that the Jeep will move if started in gear without depressing the clutch pedal. The FSM covers XJs as well as YJs so maybe XJs had a CPPS and YJs didnt. Who knows!

an even bigger reason for this clutch switch is I would like to put an auto start in there like I had on my Cherokee, I know I could fool with the installation to bypass this but could you imagine what could happen!!!!!!!
