About a month and a half ago I went out to the enduro track with my dad to do a little practice. I really started pushing my bike hard and then at the top of first gear (I wasn't at redline yet either which is weird) coming out of a corner boom! The motor blew. :shakehead And it was a terrible site. There was part of a rod along with gears, bearings, ect laying on the ground along with every motor mount broken and all of the cases cracked.
We finally rebuilt with an all new bottom end and top end and I am happy to say she is back up and running agian strong and loud as ever. lol
Here are a few pics:
This is some of what was left on the ground.

Sorry to hear that SL. Where are the pics? When the CRF engines blow they blow big time. :shakehead

These are the links. For some reason blogger pics can't be viewed by everybody (kind of weird). A few of them are of the motor showing all the cracked casings and a huge gaping whole with the crank exposed. The other of it is just a pic of me breaking it in. The rebuild cost......haven't added it all up but my guess would be around $2000 give or take.

The bottom end is noticably better after the rebuild now too. There is a an extra kick at the bottom of the poweband (not that that is a real problem on a CRF450R lol). Yeah I ran it once and did the 15 min ride, let it cool down and repeat a few times. Took it back and changed the oil agian after breaking in the new piston and cylinder, ect. We have actually gone out another time after that to the same enduro track and it was a BLAST! Out of all the places I have ever been there is nothing like this place. That cost is about right. I was shopping around for a used CRF450 a few weeks ago. To compliment my CR and get on the band wagon. Found a 2004 model in the local paper. It looked dogged out and didn't sound right. Asked the guy if he ever did any top end work and he said no. The drive sprockets and chain were totally worn out. So I passed on the deal which wasn't that good. I estimated $1K for parts even if I did the labor.
That riding area is nice. I wish we had one like that. All we have are two MX tracks, the desert trails and the sand dunes.

Haha, yeah you really have to look to find one that hasn't been beat to a pulp. I started shopping for my CRF a little over three years ago. Ran into the same things as you with people who had ridden the hell out of them at motox events or elsewhere. In fact, I ended up driving to east Kentucky just so I could get one in good condition (and I live in Nebraska).
