Okey.. here´s the deal.. I have to be honest.. EVERY single time I try to build the model I just can´t find any motivation.. I thought that a new model (and a formula 1 by the way) would get my motivation up but no.. It didn´t.. that´s why I now stop building models for some time.. I look at this website and AF and others EVERY day and I see these beautiful models and then it hits me.. As long as I can´t get any CF-decals and P/E parts my models will never be as good as Hiroboy´s or Mick´s models or anybody else .. So for now on this is the last update of this project until I can find some motivation in building.. thanks for this great time and I hope I will be back in a short time :)
and HERE is the thing why I stop building.. I can´t seem to get ANY good CF-pattern and this is what I have been working most on.. and the burnt effect on the exhaust.. :-?

http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/7549/img2668hc5.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
BUT I did get this thing right.. I glued the bodypanels together and sanded them smooth.. But I bet my a$$ that I will f*ck the bodypainting up..

Hi Rickard,
Motivation is very important when building models and I must confess that it many times model making is demotivational.
CF is a nice addition to a model but by no means essential. If you object to the expense of CF just go for a semi-gloss automotive spray... it will still look good, trust me. Trying to paint your own CF is going to end up demotivating you even more. :banghead:
Some of the burnt exhausts you see on here require many hours of patience which I certainly don't have, so I just go for a base coat, wash and drybrush effect. It gives depth without all the hassle and is a technique that you can apply to all your metal parts.
You seem to be having a problem with the tyre decals. I find that they don't bond very well too. I brush on X-18 first, so that there is a layer of paint to bond to, then apply the decal, then apply a clear coat over the top to seal it. It works for me. If you want to keep your sanity, make sure the tyre is on the rim BEFORE you apply the decal, as tyre has to be deformed to fit on the rim and your decal will tear. Whilst on the subject of tyres, I like to do them last now because I find that to store them once complete they end up resting on the decals which is not good. Also, if you have sanded the tread, your nice pretty clean tread starts to attract stuff you dont wont it too.
Hope these comments provide you with some more motivation. Keep up the good work.

Rickard,
dont compare your models to any other than your last build and do not give up building, you are a young lad and have a large talent - you do not need expensive extras to make a model look good, as billypee said patience is the absolute key.
Do not worry about comparing your models with other builders either, just learn as I have from the techniques people use and share on here and put them into your own work - you will find that with every model you will increase your skills until you will even want to re-do some of your older ones.
Above all else, the most important person to impress with building models is yourself, dont worry about other peoples - just admire them for what they are and get your enjoyment that way.
Above all dont give up my friend, remember in the last competition you beat my Renault 5 with your stunning Capri and I added a whole host of details extras and scratch built goodies.
keep on building!
Sean

Rickard what both Billy & Sean have said are such true and wonderful words. The main person you are building these models for is yourself, you are the only person you need to impress. I have a friend who above his work bench is a small sign, all it says is "FOR ME". There is no need to put CF and PE items on your models. They are nice and add a new dimension but some semi gloss black and some highlight painting does the trick just as well. Look at JT's board, we are all there for fun.
I like your work and hope you reconsider giving up.

Hey Richard,
I have stopped building models for some time after the cleaning lady put all my refence books on the box of this model. The wings shattered (totally damaging the cf work), the air intake broke damaging the engine, the front suspension broke as well. and moderate damage to the chassis.
I basically called the cleaning lady, placed the car in the middle of the room and broke the rest to millions with a hammer. Then I cut the cost of the model, the upgrades and teh repairs of the house (the hammer damaged the floor lol) from her Payment. No problems ever since.
This is the model:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=225339
Now I finally found motivation to build again. So I say find some motivation and make sure it makes you return to building faster :)
This may help you,
I have a friend who hates weathered kits. He wants them shiny and clean. So you can build a F1 car totally shiny and it will look excellent as that is the way it is when it comes out of the work shop :)
Dont wory about CF and PE at first. get that car up and ready. finishing it clean will give you the motivation

okey.. Back on track.. I was kinda happy sitting down by the workbench and started sanding.. and then I feel like I nailed the paint job :) So Im happy to tell you guys that Im back.. But Im in a new dilemma right at the start.. I figured out how to make the brakedisc spin with the wheels.. BUT if I do this I will not be able to do an "in-pit" version of this one.. what should I do ? You wont be able to see the spinning brakedisc anyway but it would look cool.. :-?
And for the paintjob.. Not quite there yet.. but I think some clearcoat will do the job :)

And the brakes.. I sanded them a bit to make them have that ceramic look.. tell me what you think :)

Hope you guys are happy with this update.. because I might think that this is my greatest update ever.. :)

Keep on building Rickard!! We all suffer from a lack of motivation sometimes I know I do.Don't put yourself down you are building some excellent models.
I've just spent 2 days wiring my McLaren F1 engine and never want to see another wire again ever:banghead: Well until tommorrow at least:)
Keep up the good work.

Rickard,
good to see you back modeling, your latest update shows you should stick at it. Brake disc surfaces look excellent, as does the radiator - a nice finish. Looks like a good finish on the paintjob too, but it looks silver - is that just the photograph?
good to see you back modeling!

the blue is actually a LITTLE darker then mica blue.. and its just the phot.. white background and some screwed up lightning.. its hard to take outdoor pics in sweden at this time at year due to alot of rain and almost NO sun at all.. I will try my best to make the paint justice when the clearcoat has been laid down and dried and polished :)

The brake surfaces look great. The front wing looks more like silver than blue (but I guess you know that already) :grinyes:
