Speeding Ticket

not only do i have a bad fever, not only do i have relationship problems, not only do i have trouble catching up in schoolwork after being home sick forever... but i just got a speeding ticket for doing 40 in a 30.
I'm feeling terrible right now so i'm not gonna bitch about it, but just say it was totally my fault, i know that road is always watched around this time, i know how stuck up cops are in that area, and i know i should have been slower. it just sucks. I can't afford this! i'm sooo tight on money its ridiculous. maintaining an old and failing car, paying for insurance (which is now about to rise a shit load cuz i'm under 21), and paying for school... yeah, i'm totally depressed about this shit. :frown:

Can you at least take the defensive driving class to avoid the insurance hike and reduce the fine? You'll still end up paying as much money, maybe a lil more (at least thats how its set up in Tallahassee, FL) but you avoid the insurance hit.

i already did, about 4 months ago, and i had a clean record till now... i don't know if i can take it again so soon, like legally, but if so, i'll deal with 6 hours of boredom happily.

Hmmm. I think you have to wait 12 months before you can use it again. Maybe even 6.
If its 6 maybe you could ask for an extension on the ticket then once you're eligible take the class take it and hope they don't realize the shadiness :uhoh:

that sucks, just talk to the cop a tcourtand tell him you can't afford an insurance hike, ask him if there's any way he can plea it to a non-moving violation like a seatbelt or broken speedometer.
sorry about your bad luck, shit'll get better. if it makes you feel any better i just got a ticket for 64 in a 45, misery loves company, right?

hold on, defensive driving is the 5hr class, the point reduction class is the 6hr class... i just took the 6hr recently, havn't taken the 5hr since i got my permit long ago... so does the 5hr course do anything for you? i'm not aware of any benefits, i only thought it was a NYS requirement to get a license.

Do cops usually talk to defendants before court? The only time a cop gave me the time of day was when he was a witness to some kid smashing the front end of my car. Every other time, they sit way off to the side in the area that non-lawyers/ law enforcement officers aren't allowed to enter.

Sorry. I guess I meant the point reduction class. But check just in case. In florida, the class was 4 hours and I took it online both times (2 years apart). But in Illinois, there are no points as far as I know. I only got tickets in IL before I turned 18 so maybe it was because I was a minor, but I got a total of 9 tickets. There were 3 moving violations spread between 3 groups of 3 tickets each incident. But every time I would get tickets, go to court 3 weeks later and they'd tell me I was under "supervision" for 3 months meaning that as long as I didn't get another ticket in that time the previous ones would disappear from my record. And my fine was only $75 total each time.
Those were the days :frown:

well, its actually a summons, not a ticket, so i have to show up to court, and they'll give me a fine there. So, i'm planning on showing up (rather than mailing in the summons with my plea decision) and pleading guilty as charged, with an explanation, hopefully I can have the judge talk it down?
Damien

first offense, may theyll let you off. my judge did and mine was a wreckless driving charge. i was on, 6 month probation i think which meant if i got a ticket within that time, i was royal screwed.
as for the driving class, take it. you can take it as many times as you want and it looks good. i know, after all my incidents, ive taken it a lot for future ordeals. now you wont get points off each time, but it looks good.

Every other time, they sit way off to the side in the area that non-lawyers/ law enforcement officers aren't allowed to enter. they do here, provided you plead not guilty before hand. you send the ticket in "not guilty" and when you show up for your court date they call you into some little side hallway and you discuss a plea bargain before you appear before the judge. anytime i've gotten pulled over it was for 15+ over the limit and it always gets plead down to "failure to observe traffic device".

It was $244 exactly. He pulled me over and said he should also give me reckless endagerment (which is a felony) which would not have been good at all. I talked to the prosecuting attorney and got like one point dropped off of the ticket, paid my fine and moved on with life....well, until I got excessive torque, spilling a load (lol), and impeding traffic. :icon16:

That is what they went down as lol. The excessive torque was when I was young and dumb and thought it would be a good idea to show an Explorer its place with my 5 spd Dodge Ram. Well I gave it to much gas and basically dumped the clutch being a n00b at it and spun my tires for quite some time. Sure enough I was pulled over for it and yeah, it was a traffic ticket.
My spilling of a load and impeding traffic happend when I was the only legal US citizen on my work crew therefore I was the only one with a license to drive. Well one of those retards didn't strap a wheel-barrel down tight enough and came off causing a three car pile up. Since I was the only one who could drive legaly, I was stuck with both tickets along with the points off of my license. To this day I can not express my hate enough for that crew....
And it goes far beyond that incident.

excessive torque? that's a strange way of wording it. my buddy got ticketed for doing a burnout at a light and it was for an "unsafe start".
also if you got ticketed while on the clock shouldn't that go against your employers insurance and not your own?

Insurance? Yes, it did go towards my landscaping companies insurance. However, the Sheriff that wrote the ticket said the points would still be taken off of my license.
And yes, that is exactly how it is worded here in the State on Nebraska...."excessive torque"..lol

Sometimes police jargain is great. My friend got a ticket for taking off to beat somebody from a stoplight. The cop pulled him over, we had seatbelts on. He wrote a ticket for "Excessive Display of Speed". My friend looked at it and said "Excessive display of speed? Sir, this is an Escort, it has no speed!"

Why, Plea not guilty, you'll talk to the D/A dude or whatever and he'll probably plea it down to something stupid like a parking ticket or something. Unless it's DUI or DWI you can plea down.

:iagree: If you can talk to the cop then do it. Believe it or not, cops can be alright guys and they don't always wanna screw everybody over. In Chicago, we can't talk to the cops after they've pulled us over, but a lot of times they don't even bother showing up to court and the case is thrown out.

The way I got my ticket reduced (in points) was to go into the prosecuting attorney for these traffic violations and if you have a fairly clean record then you may very well get it reduced in some way or another.

i hate speeding tickets, traffic court and points on my license more. and most radar detectors have an auto-mute feature that turns the alarm off after a few beeps. also I'm from NY, there are no laws saying you can't have one, but whatever floats your boat, just a suggestion.
