Help me build my Frankenstein!

First off I would like to thank you for taking the time to help me with my current project, Frankenstein. The reason I have named my MR2 this name is due to the fact that my MR2 was built from 3 different MR2's. What I have to work with is the basics on a stock MR2 turbo with a 91' shell & 91' - 94' parts. My thoughts on what to do so far is change out the suspention, engine, & tranny (mannual). The suspention needs to be set up for an autocross/stiff feel, but still can be driven around town. The engine (ATS 2.0 stroker) will be purchased after my deployment in Iraq. For the head, I was thinking of keeping the 3sgte head but getting new valves, springs, port/polish, ect. When it comes to the cams, I am not sure as what to get. I like the HKS 264, but would it be the best to run 264 on both the exhaust and intake valves? The tranny is what I really need help with. I'm not sure if the gears should be messed with or what type of clutch/flywheel to use. My goal for this MR2 is to have something that can be comfortably driven, with good high and low end power. Thanks again! Semper Fi

There was a huge test done on cams on the turbo MR2.
They tested 264/264, 272/264 and 264/272 and the differences were not that significant. I was running 272/264, but now I have 264s on both sides.

The stock turbo tranny is fine. There is no need to change anything in there.
Clutch & flywheel are going to depend on your power level.

I don't t hink ATS makes a 2.0 stroker as the stock discplacement is 2.0.
They make a 2.2 and probably a 2.1 in the stroker.

Why did you switch from 272/264 to 264/264?

I heard that with the tranny there is syncros problem with hard driving. Is there a replacement to fix this problem? I hope to have atleast 350+ hp with a close number in torque. The car is being built for autocross/track.

Yes, you are right. The engine is a 2.2 stroker.

I switched engines and the sponsor that was building the new engine had 264s for both sides on hand. Who am I to argue? :)

If you race, you are going to have transmission concerns. It's a just a fact of life. With a cable-shift car like the MR2 it just gets a bit worse. I do a lot of racing and plan on one tranny rebuld per year. If I don't need it, that makes me happy :) I have a spare tranny so they are just constantly being rotated.

The 93+ transmission have significianly better dual syncros than the 91/92 trannys.
