Installing springs & shocks on A4

My friend has a 2001 audi a4 1.8t front wheel drive. He bought the eibach lowering kit for his car. now heres the problem..

We dont know how to get the original shock & spring assembly off of the car. on the rear drivers side, we took off the wheel well cover, unbolted the lower control arm, and from there we were stumped. there is no visible upper control arm that we can see, just metal frame of the car. its just the part that connects to the lower control arm up to a metal housing that has 2 little silver guides coming out of it. we compressed the spring (while its still on the car) and loosened a bolt inside of the trunk compartment that had a metal clip-like thing right in front of it. still, nothing budges at all. not the metal housing or anything. we have also looked all over the internet, but the only things we can find are for cars with the upper control arm, which we seem to be lacking. so how do you remove the rear shock and spring assembly?

Every thing for the rear is under the arch, you need to remove the wheel liner.
