Several things can cause P1744. Some involve nasty, pricey fixes. One can be cheap and simple!

Hi, I have a '98 Windstar with 146K miles. A few week back my son was driving on the interstate around 60 - 70 MPH when the trans went into low gear and the motor revved up. Trans is toast. I had it rebuilt and picked it up three days ago. The guy who rebuilt it also installed an auxillary cooler like the ones used in the towing package. I am now getting the service engine light with the code P1744. I cleared it out and within driving 10 miles on the interstate it came on again. Same code. The motor runs smooth and the trans shifts with no problems. Any suggestions as to why I'm getting P1744?

P1744 = Torque Converter Clutch System mechically stuck OFF
Which means that you should get it back to the shop, as they should cover the problem.

I have a 1998 Ford Windstar Van that has a code error P1744. I just installed a rebuilt transmission. The car funs find. I have just driven 1800 miles with no problem. What are the other things I can check before puilling the trans out again to check the Tork Converter ?
Also I have an instrument panel that has no Tach meter. I reveived an Instrument panel with a tach meter on board. Where I can find a very good electrical wiring diagram for both with and without a instrument panel tach meter ?
