I have a 96 Contour (V-6). Speedometer and odometer stopped. Transmission lunged and is very rough -- even when iddling. O/D Light flashing. Checked the codes and it said to replace the Vehicle Speed Sensor. I did -- No improvement. Apparently there are two speed sensors -- the one with a cable on the transmission which I changed. And another which looks like a little chip about 2 inches long. Anyone know the location of the second sensor? Someone told me its a rear sensor; someone else told me its back by the rear left wheel, but I can't find it. Thanks.

on a 96 4 cyl auto, they refer to the vss as the output sensor, it's located lower rear near the power steering, the input sensor is located on the rear of the transmission near the left wheel. on mine the speedometer is electronic, not cable, might check your fuses, good luck

Thanks much. Haven't been able to find anything on it yet.
