Nats

Hi guys, just picked up my S plate '98 Primera 2.0GT, and have a couple of questions about NATS.

1. My isnurance company want to know what vers NATS is fitted.

2. On the key fobs i've got 2 cylidrical objects about 4cm long with NATS siren e-key written on them and 2 electical contacts at the end, now i've noticed the battery has written on it something like "disable nats before removal", and i've found a suitiable receptical for the 'key?' in the boot(trunk), i presume before i remove the battery i 'disable' the alarm, but how??, and any other times i'd want to disable it?(a friend has a toyota GT4, and when he opens door with key and not remote control he pops his 'toyota e-key' into a slot under dash.)

Thanks in advance for your help, and i'm sure i'll be troubling you with other questions in the not to distant future.

Chris.

I think (but whatever you do don't quote me on this) it's nats 2.

The E-key is to diable the siren if you disconnect the battery or something. It's dead easy, touch the key on the pad (it'll beep around 4times). disconnect the battery and do whatever it is you're doing. Reconnect the battery. Touch the e-key on the pad (it'll beep 5 times) close the car, lock it with the remote wait a few seconds. open the boot with the key, not the remote and you should be deafened by the alarm. If not, use the e-key again close the boot and wait a bit longer before trying it again.

There you go. easy huh?

Yep, your NATS system is in fact a NATS 2, the second generation. Its Cat 1 as standard on a GT and it also has deadlocks. Try winding down your windows, then lock the car with the remote fob, then try to unlock the door from the latch inside, youll notice that it does nothing and all the doors/boot remains locked. One thing though, make sure you point it out to the insurance that it IS and CAT 1 standard factory fit alarm cos theyre a bit thick sometimes. This way, youll get your discount.

Your Insurance company are being stupid, you cant buy a UK GT without NATS2, therefore when the ins company grouped the car they had this information, yet they always ask .............:bloated:

Easy, erm yes sounds very easy, however i dont hear the 4 beeps, so either i'm doing something wrong, or the e-key i've got doesnt work(will try wifes when she gets in), what i'm doing is opening boot, and then pressing the ekey on the pad for varing lengths of time(1 sec-30 secs), with the alwarm on and alarm off, bonnet open, and closed. So am i doing something stupidly wrong??

Ok, well tried mrs's e-key, and i got the 4 beeps etc, so my e-key is obviously broken, any idea how much these cost?, or should i just live with one?

Also P11GT, cat 1 alarm?, dont these have to self arm after a short length of time??

Auto re-arm isnt a required feature for CAT 1, its just a optional one that some aftermarket alarms offer for peace of mind. The only requirements for CAT are passive arming of the immobiliser (CAT2) and when fitted in conjuction with an alarm, then it makes it CAT 1, plus a few other bits like black wiring, metalic casing yadda yadda yadda........ well thats about the jist of it when i used to fit alarms a few years ago.

Oh, ive been told that the E Key only silences the siren mounted beneathe the rear deck. Its doesnt do anything to the immobilser as the transponder does it or something like that.

Your right Kev, the E key only silences the "back up siren"
& u need to switch it back on afterwards
