Impala Headlight Question

Ok is there any difference between a 2002 Chevrolet Impala and a 2005 Chevy Impala's headlight. As in the look of them or are they identical cus im not sure i havn't had a chance to look at a new one...

I don't have the answer to that but would like to ask another headlight question. I noticed some Impalas the always on driving lights are the inner two headlights, mine (2002) and others I see are the outer headlight. Could this be the difference in years?

Mechanically, there is NO difference between any of the years, you can swap any 00-05 headlights.

Yes, the DRL have changed in 05. From 00-04 all DRL functions are in the inner headlights (high beams). In 05 they changed that to the outer (low beam) headlights, but that is done thru the wiring, not the headlight.

Wait a minute, don't you mean they went to the inner lights on the 05? mines 02 and they are the outer low beam:evillol: Bigrod I knew you'd come thru on this...haha!

that's very strange, because I wasn't mistaken, highbeam and low beam are same thru-out all the years, it's just the DRL's location that changed, from the inner to the outer.

I have an 02 and during the day (when the DRL's are on) my high beams light up at half power (appear yellowish), they changed it in 05 that the DRL's were the outer low beam lamps, at full power.

If you have an 02 and your outer lights are what comes on during the day, I would think something may be wrong, perhaps your ALC sensor has gone bad or is coverd up, and your car thinks its nighttime and is turning on your lowbeams, instead of allowing your DRL's to come on.

Hmmmm! I'll have to investigate this a bit further...can you tell me where the alc sensor is located?

On your dash, near the windsheild, the defroster cover. that little black sensor you see on the driver side end, is the ALC(automatic light control) sensor.

you'll have to open the door, remove the a-pillar (just push tabs hold it on), then working from 1 end to the other, gently, but firmly lift up on the defroster dash cover (push tabs hold that on too) you shouldn't have to take it completely off, but 2 or 3 tabs should get you enough room to work in there.

Bgirod you are as most often correct...I checked it out and during the day my inner lights are the ones on....must have always just noticed the light after they stay on at night which as you said are the night time function.
