I have a 1989 525I and have been having trouble with my AC blower. It only works on Hi speed. I purchased a new blower motor resistor from the dealer and cannot seem to find out where exactly its located to replace it. I looked in the obvious places: around the blower motor itself, and from inside the car on the driver and pass side.
Any help on this would be appreciated.

Thanks

Check the control panel near the faulty side's fan control. The wheel operates a resistor that controls the fan's speed. If you feel a notch at the "hi" end of the travel when operating the wheel, the purpose of that notch is to mechanically short out the juice directly to the blower motor, effectively by-passing the rheostat mechanism. That's why the switch works on high even with a defective rheostat. So check the control panel for the faulty component.

I just replaced my resistor pack and it fixed the same problem. On the driver's side of the center console, just above the gas pedal, there is a single screw holding a carpet panel to the console. Take that out. I found out after the fact that I did NOT need to remove the pedal cluster trim panel, even though it helped me see things.

The resistor pack is located behind everything in the center console, kind of where the floor meets the firewall. There is a 4-wire(?) plug leading in to it. If you don't take the trim panel out, you kind of have to go by feel.

Good luck.
