Search around for a friend who has experience in Toyotas and can help you and provide instructions. The only other option is looking around for a cheaper mechanic.

Don't overlook the fact that you may need to replace other parts, or restore the friction surface of other parts (flywheel, pressure plate, pilot bearing, clutch release bearing, release fork) besides the clutch plate. These things may be factored into the price estimate you received.

Get a repair manual and read the procedure while you are looking at your car. Become familiar with the job before you decide to do it yourself.

Autozone.com has a basic repair guide available showing how to remove the transmission and clutch. If you are going to do the job yourself, I would reccommend that you get a more detailed manual. Note the job may require special tools.

Did your estimate state how many hours the job was going to take the pro to do?

If the job is done right and you don't drive like an idiot, your new clutch should last for years.
