Hi Guys, …so first wip, first Ferrari ever, I do not know WHEN/HOW/IF I’ll be able to complete it, but let’s proceed.
Fujimi kit with Crazy Modeler F430 photoetched set (Note: I understood they’re developing a specific set for the Challenge only)
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a163/RJ1108/F430%20Challenge/430ch.jpg
I’m not sure about the livery but the model will have slick tires. To do so, I sanded away the inner radial dent from all the rims. Tires come from a Tamiya Alfa 155 DTM. Rims are too bright, later on I’ll tone them down with Gloss Aluminium
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a163/RJ1108/F430%20Challenge/430ch1.jpg
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a163/RJ1108/F430%20Challenge/430ch3.jpg
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a163/RJ1108/F430%20Challenge/430ch2.jpg
The kit features many updatings respect the street version, the black one are the new brake discs
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a163/RJ1108/F430%20Challenge/430ch4.jpg
To have an idea about the box-stock stance, I quickly assembled undercarriage, hub and wheels. Stance looks correct in my opinion, despite I’ll probably lower it a bit
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a163/RJ1108/F430%20Challenge/430ch5.jpg
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a163/RJ1108/F430%20Challenge/430ch6.jpg
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a163/RJ1108/F430%20Challenge/430ch7.jpg
There are two racing seats in the kit; looking at my ref photos, I do not understand why Fujimi included the seat’s back shell, I won’t install it and I’ll cover the back with carbon fiber decals
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a163/RJ1108/F430%20Challenge/430ch8.jpg
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a163/RJ1108/F430%20Challenge/430ch9.jpg
Rollcage well replicated, the tubes look somewhat small

Go Robi GO!! Can't wait to see that beast come over your garage!!
Any project regarding lifting pistons? I seen a picture of the presentation's car raised from track with the right camber set-up... amazing and pretty easy to do trought alu tubes or by lathe.
BTW those fujimi rims seem not bad.

Those Fujimi wheels realy do look nice, at first glance I thought you got some alu extra wheels.
Now you got me thinking of buying this kit but I think I will wait for Technomodel version of a race car.
Don't put it a side, I would love to see it finished.

Gionc, you mean this, yes I thought about…

…but I’m also thinking to an ex-works version, like this one

Gamerxz, this is what I found in my set, but as Ron said CM is working to a new set. They’re very active and it could be the next set will contain details for all the 430 versions

The plastic grilles are molded w/open mesh now :)
They look good enought that I don't feel the need for P/E. I'm going to spend my time doing a clean OOB buildup, but I am going to make working air jacks on mine (not air-powered, but displayable either up or down).

In the Challenge kit, both front grilles from the street version and for the race version are included, remaining grilles in the Challenge kit are molded open. I do not know what about the Spyder.

Hi again. I would not superdetail this kit, but the engine bay is so simply replicated (and so visible) that it would be really tricky to paint it cleanly. So, brutally copying what my friend P64 is doing on his Street F430, I’ll will install part the engine of the Tamiya Ferrari 360.

Hi
Not that I want to discourage you, but Revell has released a kit with complete engine detail, that is obviously far superior to this Fujimi kit. And you can buy two for the price of one Tamiya 360!

This is a challenge kit? different engine... different body.. u could try converting a standard revell kit to a challenge.. which i think would be alot harder

I'm suggesting taking the best parts from both kits. There is talk about using Tamiya 360 engine parts which I find a little pricey - when you can get two Revell kits for the same kind of money. By that shortcutting this chopping of primitive 'click'fit' Fujimi parts.

I believe its not possible due to the way the fujimi kit is built.. if u see under the engine bay .. its blocked by the rubbish method of putting the brakes done by fujimi which is really simple.. there wont be enough space to put in the revell engine
Cheers

Flemming and Gamerxz, thanks for the suggestions. The more I look at the kit the more I realize that is not 100% correct and even installing the 360 engine will be not a joke. But I have to say that my friend Alex made a resin copy of the engine, so I don't have to buy a new kit either Revell or Tamiya, I never tought about this possibility.
Unfortunately Fujimi is still not able (or they are not interested in) to make good and perfect conversions, since ever.
Roberto ;)

Hi to all, a very little update. While I’m thinking how to install the 360 engine in the 430 engine bay (I’m changing my mind about this topic), I relaxed myself installing aftermarket locking-nuts on the wheels. Once milled away the molded in nut, I placed on the beautiful Scale Production turned parts (Item SPA24011).

Hmmm... properly painted the kit nuts are ok in my opinion. I had these alu nuts in my box and wanted to test and I think they looks like the real thing. Very little difference in the dimensions.

Hi to all, while I’m STILL thinking how to manage the mechanical area, I drilled the recesses intended for the hood fasteners, both front and rear, and I glued in some styrene rods that will be sanded down. At the end, I’ll install photoetched hood fasteners

Daniel, solder wire was 3 mm / 0.118 inch. A little less would be better, in my opinion, but I didn't have it.

Hi guys, I’m looking closer to my reference pictures and I discovered so many details I’ve to change. Exhausts layout is different from the street version. I started reducing the width of the silencer
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a163/RJ1108/F430%20Challenge/430ch38.jpg
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a163/RJ1108/F430%20Challenge/430ch39.jpg
I’ve to think about how to connect the exhaust pipes to both ends located in the rear bumper and also study how to fix the air jack located in the rear grill.
I sanded smooth the trunk engine cover, nose and tail where I glued the rods, I also removed the seat of the Ferrari logo from the nose (I’ll replace it with MFH adhesive logos)

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a163/RJ1108/F430%20Challenge/430ch40.jpg
Since I’ve to install the etched grilles, I’ve to open the holes on the rear decklid. To do so, I firstly milled the relevant areas and then drilled the holes from the outside

Thanks Gamerxz.
You're right, is better to use bigger drill to avoid to cut within the slots with possible damages !

Nice work Robi!
But I guess you have that PE razor saw for a long time now since it was made in Czechoslovakia and not the Czech Republic :)
BTW I have the same one

Hi Gents and thank you for comments and feedback. Tiny update: on the cockpit bulkhead some lines and protrusions – from the street version - were molded in. I sanded down up to having a flat surface. My ref photos show a sort of shaped cover bolted on the bulkhead within the rollcage. I’ll replicate it with thin styrene, to do so I firstly prepared a 1:1 sketch I’ll use as jig.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a163/RJ1108/F430%20Challenge/430ch46.jpg
In the meantime I cured the rollcage, filling the connection with superglue and liquid putty and priming it for a cross check.

Hi guys, here http://www.redinfocus.com/html/english/index.html in the news from July 19, there’s a gallery from Ferrari Days at Spa, inside about 20 photos of the F430 Challenge.
Then, sloooow progress/tiny update. I moved on the bodywork, I milled down the thickness of the front bumper in the air outlet areas, before glueing parts D1 and D2
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a163/RJ1108/F430%20Challenge/430ch49.jpg
The rear grilles are molded in the black part which fits the rear end. Since I’ll use the etched items from the coming soon Crazy Modeler specific set, I removed the grilles. Instead of drilling holes, this time I try to cut using the SRC etched blades and the CM etched saw. Being careful I got a satisfactory result

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a163/RJ1108/F430%20Challenge/430ch51.jpg
Then I marked the slots on the body and drilled the area that will be removed

That rear grille is gonna look awesome. I'm glad you did it F430 style... it looks so much better than the 360CS!
