I have recently learned how to program the remote, if you need this info don't bother paying for it. You can program up to 4 remotes if you should need that many. Post here and I can let you know how.

I just purchased a 2005 Dodge Stratus that didn't have the keyless entry remote. I now have a remote that I purchased over the internet, but the instructions that came with it are for programming it without an existing remote. Would you be able to tell me how to do that, or would I need to go to a dealer/mechanic?

I bought a remote from EBAY and these are the instructions that came with it. I will need to e-mail them to you as there is a picture.
Sorry they do not seem to cover models other than 2000 and up.

I hope this thread is still being read.

My daughter has a 2002 Stratus. She bought a replacement fob on the internet, but the instructions say to program with an existing fob. She lost her old one.

If your instructions tell how to do it without going to someone with an auto programmer tool, I would appreciate a copy of those instructions.

Thanks!
Jim

On most 2001+ Dodge / Chrysler / Jeep models you will need at least 1 working remote to program another one yourself.

If you dont have a working remote, it can be programmed - but you will have to take it to the dealer so they can plug in their equipment to do it.

I also purchased a remote online and it came with instructions and a jumper cable to get the car into programming mode. The problem is I can not get the vehicle into programming mode with the jumper cable inserted. The instructions say to connect the 1st and the 4th slots and then turn the key to the Aux position with the doors closed and then the doors should autmatically lock and unlock telling you that the car is in programming mode. never can get the doors to lock. Any ideas? I have the 2004 stratus coupe so it may be different than the stratus 4 door cause its essentially a mitsubishi.

Thanks in advance.

Status COUPE ONLY...

1. Locate the Data Line Connector (DLC) underneath the driver's side dashboard. The DLC is typically located either to the left or the right of the steering column base. Notice how the DLC is tapered on both ends: you will be working on the wider row of cavities
2. Insert keys in Ignition and leave in the off position.
3. Make sure there are metal contact pins in terminals 1 and 4 and connect the Data Line Connector (DLC) terminal 1 to terminal 4 with a suitable jumper wire, leave the jumper wire connected throughout the programming procedure). Make sure you know which terminals are 1 and 4.
4. Within 10 seconds after connecting the jumper wire, press the Hazard Switch 6 times. (Note) The doors will automatically lock and unlock once at this time indicating that the system is in the programming mode.
5. Press either the lock or unlock button on the transmitter to be registered three times within 10 seconds. Upon successful
programming, the door will lock and unlock once.
6. Repeat step 5, with any other remotes to be programmed (up to four remotes) (including any existing remotes), within one minute. After completing each programming, the doors will lock and unlock once.
7. Disconnect the programming wire and remove the keys from the
ignition.

Alas, for those of you who have no working remote, the only way to program a new one is to use the DRB III scan tool -- on a sedan, at least. Some independent repair shops and locksmiths *may* have one, but they're cost prohibitive for most of us "shadetree mechanics" -- around $2250.00 on ebay.

Jsavant,
I never had a keyless remote for a 2004 Dodge Stratus SE. I bought 2 new ones. Can you send me a copy of the instructions to program both?

Thanks

The only way to program one of those is go to the dealer and has to be programed with Chrysler's scan tool DRB III.

Can I purchase the remotes on ebay and then have the dealer program one remote and I program the other? Dealer quoted one remote purchase of $50.00 and to program one remote $50.00.

If you have the COUPE you can program with the instructions I provided a few posts back. If you have the Sedan, and no current WORKING remotes, you must have them programmed at the dealer.

Hi, I just registered and I desperately need the programming directions for a remote without an existing one. I am going to buy one from E-Bay, but they all say you must have one to program one. The one I'm buying gave me this site.

Thanks

Hello -

You will need at least 1 working remote to program the remotes yourself.

Without a working remote, you will need to bring the vehicle and the remote(s) you want to program to your local locksmith or dealer so they can program with a scantool.
