WHY are you tailgaiting me in traffic?!?

Ok, so I'm coming home from work today on the interstate, it's about 4:30 so traffic is starting to get a bit heavy, and about halfway home is starts crawling at about 5 mph.
So naturally, since have nowhere to go I keep it slow, keeping about 2 car lengths ahead of me in order to coast to a stop instead of wasting precious $3.22/gal fuel by acellerating and braking hard constantly. But the guy behind me in a pickup had a different agenda, instead of keeping his distance, he kept about 2 inches away from my rear bumper THE WHOLE TIME, I tried to get him to back off by tapping my brakelights early (I even put my reverse lights on when we were stopped) and he STILL stays a mere 1-2 inches from my bumper. All this, and I was in the RIGHT LANE!!!
This isn't the first time I've seen this happen, I drive on the x-way every day to and from work and I see too many people tailgaiting others (and me). Granted, some people are going too slow for the road (like going under 65 in the 2 left lanes and not moving over), but other times it's all the tailgaiters fault. I've been in an accident before (my friend was driving, I was the passenger) in which it most likely would have been avioded if they were following at a reasonable distance, so I know first hand how dangerous it really is.
So please, leaving the extra 10 feet of road in front of your car isn't going to make you get anywhere slower. Following too close just pisses off the people ahead of you and could very well mark the end of you or your car.
That's all, I'm out.

I'm one of those people who not tailgate as close as that guy, but make my presence known in traffic. I'm all for leaving a few car lengths between you and the car in front of you. It's a smart thing to do.
It's the people who leave 7-20 car lenghts that piss me off:banghead: I don't understand how it's so hard for these people to coast within a 1-2 car length spread. THEY are part of the problem of slow congestion. Don't even get me started on the merging of the on-ramp.:shakehead

people need to learn to just cailm down in traffic. you're not going anywhere and there's nothing you can do about it. just accept it, turn on some good music and just chill out for a while.

I hate people that ride on my ass. Hell, I dont even like riding on other peoples ass. Its annoying. Makes me want to tap my brakes just to get them a ticket for following to close and watch his insurance go up.
Oh, as far as merging, I've actually seen a guy sitting on the ramp with his signal on waiting for somebody to let him in.

I generally try to make the rest of someone's driving experience a living hell after they do stupid shit like tailgate me in traffic or cut me off. On interstate, I get up to a semi and drive just outside it's blindspot in the passing lane and sit there for about 10-12 miles, then creep up along the side ever so slowly and let the douchebag behind me around.

Also when it's red they don't turn right even if it's clear and no cars coming. What I was trying to get across was that they have thier turn signal on so you know they want to turn right but yet they still wait for a green light. When I get tailgated I just slow down, then if they are still there I drop 5mph under the limit, this is only when they are tailgating me for no good reason I'm not hanging out in the left lane holding up traffic.
I especially like when people tailgate me on residential roads I'm going 30 in a 25 and they get up on me like I should gun it. :nono:
So far everyone's slowed down because when they back off my ass I go back to normal speed and if they stay off my ass I resume my 5mph over the limit average otherwise I drop back down it is sort of like training a dog only not as fun.

I will just coast down if there is a tailgater on me. If that doesn't clue them in, I'll tap the brakes. Usually they'll back off some, if not, it's a hard it of the brakes. That gets most of the other people off my backside. If I can't see the tires of the car in front of me, I'll back off, on the highway, I'll give it atleast 3 cars lengths to them.
The people not turning right on red doesn't really piss me off. It's the people in the other lanes that cross the solid line and end up in the cross walk so you can't see around them that piss me off. And it's usually the trucks/suvs that do it too, so you either have to put yourself out into the intersection to see, or wait for the green because asshole next to you can't stop where they are supposed to. Not to mention, they are putting any pedestrians into danger by stopping that far out.

i had a tailgating problem today.in the little town were i live its been 55 mph for years.last week they changed it to 45,well most people have'nt noticed the speed change yet,so the cops have been pulling people over like wild fire.
anyway im comeing home today, and i slow down for the 45(doing 50)and this women gets right on my ass.she starts swerving, even honked at me a few times.so i start comeing up to my turn, and i put on my blinker(a good 500ft. from the road),then i slow down to turn..................AND SHE CAME SO CLOSE TO MY BUMPER I COULDNT SEE HER HOOD IN MY REARVIEW!!!!!!,and that saying something because i drive a sonoma...........so she locks up her brakes, and lays on the horn, then turns to follow me
now were on a 25mph road, and were comeing up to my driveway.agin i put on my blinker about 300ft. away, and start slowing down......SHE LOCKES UP HER BRACKES GOING LESS THAN 25 MPH!!!..........so i make the turn, and i have to get out to get the mail.and she starts yelling at me,and takes off down the road.she runs the stop sign about 50 yards down the road were.............a cop who is my next door neighbors brother pulls her over
justice was serverd :grinyes:

Nice when justice is served but that's rare. Usually retards get away with it. Tailgating in heavy traffic is sometimes unavoidable because if you leave a big space in front of you someone will get in there. What pisses me off is when someone rides my ass through normal traffic, even though I usually go at least the speed limit or a bit above.
I heard of a guy who drove around waiting for people to tailgate him, then he threw his hat out the window and slammed on the brakes. If the tailgater hit him, he sued them. He made a lot of money.

This assbag, then had to slam on his brakes and drive up onto the median. It appeared to me he had a little bit of damage to the underside of his jeep. I also read in the paper several years ago. About, a man who was tailgating another driver , until he actually bumped his vehicle. He got out, and shot him with a 22 in the neck and stomache..My point is, be careful who you f#$%^ with. Everybody is in a hurry. But, it's not worth ending up dead , or going to jail for.

I can not stand tailgaters and I absolutlyhate people who love to drive up on your ass wityh their highbeams on. I have found that random brake checks work well and also a way to fool people is to drive with two feet one just riding the brakes just enough to turn on your brake lights and the other working the gas. :) it works wonders.

Had some asshole tailgating me the other night. I had the cruise set to a hair over 60 in a 55. Then I killed the cruise and went manual and went up to 70, then 80 and he was still on my ass. Then we had to go over a mountain and noticed a semi in front of me. Loaded semis top out at 25 up this mountain. I'm like "Oh, this'll piss him off." When a passing lane came up, I grabbed it and took my time passing the truck. I did 65-70 up the mountain and stayed in the left lane. You think this dumbass would have the sense to go ahead and pass me on the right? Nope, still on my ass. The passing lane was over and we got to the top. There were no more opportunities for him to pass, so I slowed down to 55. Then 50. We were going down hill so I couldn't slow down even further without hitting the brakes. I could've killed the overdrive or pulled up the e-brake. Anything to prevent the brake lights from coming on. My turn came up and as soon as I hit my turn signal, he backed off. What the hell?
My brother was on the freeway and he was in the left lane ALREADY SPEEDING when this asshole started tailgating him, flashing his lights, and pointing to the right. There was traffic on the right, so he had no room to move over anyway. He still wouldn't get off his ass, so my brother started to slow down to the speed limit. Then the other lanes eventually had semis that slowed way down on a hill. My brother matched the speed of the semis. The guy was pissed. Honked, middle finger, and everything. When the semis were clear, my brother floored it and wasted him. I mean, what good is it gonna do to tailgate someone who's already speeding? And this thing about left lane camping? Fuck that! Yeah, I agree that people who are going under the speed limit should stay to the right. But if they're doing the speed limit, then they're fine in the left lane. Apparently, some drivers are just not smart enough to just pass on the right and leave the left lane campers alone.

Well in some states & countries it's illegal to drive in the left lane, the left lane is only for passing. Once you pass, you move right - it's the law, regardless of how fast/slow you're driving. Also, in some areas it's against the law to pass on the right, and regardless of whether it's a law or not it's still a dangerous act to do so.
I live in Illinois and the law states that a motor vehicle can drive in the left lane on a controlled acess highway for a maximim of one mile continuously, I know that Texas has a similar law.
Hogging the left lane is the major cause of traffic jams and congestion, it impedes the free flow of traffic, frustrates other drivers & is illegal in many areas, simple as that. The left lane is for "passing" not "pacing" the traffic.

Hogging the left lane is the major cause of traffic jams and congestion, it impedes the free flow of traffic, frustrates other drivers & is illegal in many areas, simple as that. The left lane is for "passing" not "pacing" the traffic.
If that ain't the truth I don't know what is.

The other day some lady was tailgating a tractor trailer dump truck(aka sand box) and he stopped she ran right under him I laughed and smiled all day. Oh she had two black eyes from getting her fists in her eyes when the air bags went off. I was late to school and had a note from the highway patrolman. Usually they are dicks and will fuck you anyway they can. The entire event made my day.

I thought you were a peaceful, even-tempered cowboy until that post. But I see there is evil residing deep within you. Let it free!

You are absolutely right, there is absolutely no reason to tailgate anyone, even if it is their fault. If it is that bad, just pass them. I do the same thing in traffic at work and in my personal car. I drive a truck, so I may leave 5 car lengths or so because 10 hours of pushing the clutch in and out gets tiring and I try to do it as little as possilble, plus it saves gas.

lmao, im rarely get tailgated, cuz i do most of the tailgatin in the left lane when the speed limit is 40mph and the idiot infront of me is doin 39mph :grinyes:
n they still dnt move, so i get closer n move a little to the left like im peekin on their side just to give them a hint, n if they dnt move i back off for 5 seconds and speed back up to them n slow down inches from their bumper and if that doesnt work i just pass on the median and do 65mph the rest of the way.....omg im gonna get someone killed one day :banghead:

the good thing about being in a country where insurance is a legal must have, is that if any prick decides to tailgate me excessively and aggressively, all i have to do is brake, let him hit me and let the law take care of his dumb arse.

...and if they don't, that's when its for the law to take care of. If they do have insurance, their premium gets ramped up.
Either way, they lose out.

True in a good world the bad guy gets caught and justice prevails. But in the real world there are hit and runs and the people never get caught *raises hand happened to me*
I hate people that drive with out insurance. If it were up to me the laws would be a lot more harsh, DL suspension and payment to the victim tell all debts are paid.

Apparently, some drivers are just not smart enough to just pass on the right and leave the left lane campers alone.
you do realize that in most states, it is illegal to pass on the right, dont you.

people need to learn to just cailm down in traffic. you're not going anywhere and there's nothing you can do about it. just accept it, turn on some good music and just chill out for a while.
Then lets go deeper.
Why do you own a car? Man lived without it for thousands of years.
Why do you have the job you need a car for? Many people dont need a job like that.
Why do you need the money you get from the job that you need a car for? Shaolin munks don't need money.
Why can't you live the way the shaolin munks do to avoid the need for money, that you have to solve by getting a job that you happened to need a car for?
Let's just accept that road rage, like any feeling is an impulse that needs to be let out, as long as you dont hurt anybody. Scream it out ffs. Then relax to some good music.
