2nd Worst Road Trip Ever

SO this past weekend I took a road trip from Chicago to Tallahassee Florida to clear out my townhouse before our lease ends (today) and help my cousin move into her new house. My sister came along pretty much only to get away from my mom for a few days  Instead of explaining what went wrong in paragraph form which would take me forever, I will list them.

(In chronological order)

1) Departure time (from work) of 11:30am Thursday is delayed by the intranet at work going down and me not being able to finish my work til 1

2) Pickup of rental car is delayed because I drop my mom off to pick it up at Budget Rent-A-Car... I reserved it at Hertz :slap: That one was my fault

3) I reserved a mid-size car. The options they gave were Corolla or Jeep Liberty. I refuse to squeeze into a Rolla for 15 hours (6'5" > Corolla) so Liberty it is... 24mpg hwy :shakehead

4) My cousin doesn't like to drive at night, so she takes first shift. It rains heavily before we even leave the city and she promptly drives us into a 2ft puddle of pebbles and water :disappoin (maybe it was a good thing we had the truck) So I decide she's not allowed to drive in rain anymore

5) Around hour 2 of driving the Jeep, I realize it was not meant for people over 6ft and my legs cramp regularly. As a result, I was forced to learn to drive flawlessly with only my left foot

6) With my earlier day rain shift and my agreed upon night shift driving, I drove a total of 12 of the 15 hour trip down as opposed to the 7 I expected

7) The U-Haul I reserved 3 weeks prior for 9am was "unavailable" until 4pm which forced us to rent a Penske for $20 more instead

8) My roomate had allowed his frat brother to store stuff at our house. He decided that he would also store his dog there... in my room... on my mattress

9) The furniture we needed the truck for was no longer available despite my cousin's numerous requests to pay for it ahead of time over the last month. We then had to call around and find another deal

10) Since we were moving, it had to rain all day

11) It stopped raining... as soon as we were finished

12) After all the hustling and changes of plans, we didn't stop moving/arranging til 1:30 am Sunday. Departure time was to be 3am and I had first shift :frown:

13) After an hour on the highway, I realized that I forgot to turn in my keys to our property manager

14) First gas stop I can't find my wallet for the life of me. I thought I may have left it in Tallahassee. Looked for 15 minutes and saw my sister was sleeping on it.

15) For some reason, Alabama Burger Kings haven't heard of the $1 menu

17) The combination of tiny front seat and blazing midday sun make it impossible for me to get steady sleep while my cousin drives.

16) Hertz tried to charge $15 for the Sirius radio I didn't request on the truck I didn't want in the first place

17) This morning I get in the car to leave for work only to find a cicada (sp?) in my car. The next 10 minutes are spent trying to guide it out of my car by means of throwing shit at it and poking at it with a pair of loppers which only succeded in making me look like a giant girl.

18) In the process of trying (unsuccessfully) to get the cicada out, I work up a crazy sweat in the 93 degree morning heat, and have to go back inside to change which makes me 30 min late for work this morning

Those were the highlights of the 2nd shittiest road trip I ever had. The only one I had worse involved me and two other black guys driving through rural southern Georgia in the middle of the night for legitimate emergency reasons and almost running out of gas on some crazy lookin back road with no directions and no cell phone signal. Trip highlights there included running over part of a dead deer in the road, hitting some midsize rodent running across the road, having to turn around in the grass median of the highway in Georgia, and deciding which one of us was going to go into the suspicious looking restaurant to ask for directions to the nearest gas station.

Put it in perspective - Lebanon is getting the shit bombed out of it at the moment. Build a bridge and get over it.

Heres a simmilar trip!
We decided to take a camping trip with our neighbor. Our neighbor had her sister comming into town and thought it would be perfict if the came along. It all started saturday morning.

We all got off to a slow start. We started by getting the cannoe's first and drove down to the outdoors shop. When we got their they had our cannoe's but not our trailer. Reserved one that could hold 4 but the only one they had held 10 and was WAY to heavy for our car to pull. They hunted around and found us a small trailer for 4 wheelers. A 15 min. pickup ended up taking about 1 hr 15 min.

We came home and called the campsight only for them to tell us that they didn't know if they were full, stupid national park system! We decided to make the 2 HR drive to the camp sight, aginst my will I said we should camp about 45 min north from where we live.

We wanted to go on a cheap camping trip, but come to find out camping is almost as much as staying at a hotel for a few days. Just to get into the forest it would cost 25 dollars a car. We had 2 but we wanted to go camping so we figure it was ok. We get to the camp sight and guess what! They are full! Stupid national park system dont know whats going on in the park.

Our neighbors had been camping here before and it didn't cost them a thing to come camping! Come to find out they went camping off season so it was free! We went to a different campsight 45 min away and when we got there they wanted 15 dollars a night! HOLY CRAP! I cant remember the last time I paied to go camping. So another 30 dollars paied for 2 nights. By the way our campsight sucked and was covered in rocks and seamed like it was 5 feet wide. Oh and the table was bulted to the ground in a clearing of trees where the hot sun made it compleatly misrible to eat at.

So to make up for all this we wanted to go cannoing on the lake. But now we have to get boat permits! YAY! We have 3 cannoe's and have to fork out another 30 dollars. So we are now over 100 dollars now for a cheap camping trip. Well out of every service the park has to offer the permits departemet dosent accept visa. :banghead: At this point I start to lose it. We walk about 200 yards to the general store, where an atm is. ATM is broken. The store workers tell us the next closest one is 30 min away. Thats an hour round trip just to get money. Oh and it's a 200 dollar fine for boating without a permit, per boart.

So now we are pissed as hell and really want to kill someone! :chair: We drive back to the camp sight and stop at the office to try to get our money back. We did and went back to our campsight and started to take down camp. I had taken the second stake out of the ground when a van full of kids pulls up and start to get out. Their dad comes over and asks what we are doing here on their campsight. STUPID PARK SERVICE gave away our campsight not 2 min after we got our money back! THOES BASTARDS!

We Finish packing up and leave and drive north around the mountain and end up in the place I said we should go to in the first place! Free, Fun and Festive.

We started out at about 7 AM and finally got to our campsight at 7 PM. What a day! And to top all this off we had to leave the next day because our neighbors sister was a wine baby and never wanted to go camping in the first place! :banghead:

Now this was a camping trip from hell!

Kind of puts the stress release forum into the "Why bother basket" if we took that approach to it.

People get pissed off, people want to vent really, venting is the quickest way to build a bridge imho.

It's nothing as bad as getting a blow out then that blown out tire cutting the other tire(dual axle trailer) with a nice ripe stiff(horse) on the trailer in the heat of a 95+ July day.
