I'm Suprised Musashi didn't post this one, cause it was fun.
We were heading out to pizza hut to pick up pizza's (Duh) and musashi let me drive. As we were getting close to the hut we ran into a red mustang GT. There were 3 guys in the GT as there were 3 of us in the GTO, the guys in the GT didn't speak a word of english and obviously didn't know what a GTO was either since he was asking if the pontiac was modded since it was so loud.
So the passenger in the mustang asks of if we want to race and Musashi gives me the okay. I put it into 2nd and slam on the gas putting who know how much distance between us as I shift into 3rd losing a bit of traction as I do it. The Gt catches up again and we go once more with the same outcome. Musashi tell the guys we are going to pizza hut and for them to follow us so we can have a race from a dead stop. Musashi was even willing to put money down, guess the guys didnt know what pizza hut was either since they were like huh? everytime we said we are going to pizza hut.

well I didnt post it cause it was your kill man, you get the glory you can do the paperwork too :grinno: .
Those guys where dumbasses, first off they didnt know what a GTO was and they thought the 4 or 5 cars we put on them was the ressult of mods.
They said they where going to the ice skating rink, I said "ok we will follow you and race for money"......they flipped a U and ran away.....pussies.
good kill man.

Good kill. I expect to here more Stang kills from the GTO in the future.
Was that your first time driving the GTO? If so what did you think? I would think wheel spin on that would just be overwhelming.

It wasnt my first time in the GTO, i've actually driven it a few times before courtesy of musashi, this is the first time I have raced it though. To be honest and not to sound cocky, I am quite used to the car and I think I drive it pretty well. Though I do get a little shakey after driving it, but that's cause I get so excited that I wanna keep driving.

Nah, just a solid set of Hawk pads and some cross-drilled/slotted disks.

nah, its 350 for the front disks and 200 for the rear, the pads are 100 bucks front and 70 rear.
so its 720.00, compare that to a big break package for around 2500.00. It sounds like alot but if I save up a little each check I can have it in two months. I wont need them till early next year so I can wait.

id rather have an 03/04 cobra or a roush stage 3. both are cheaper and weight WAYYYYY less. did i mention the roush handles really well to. it makes 415hp off only 5psi...

GTO has been stomping Mustang since the first models appeared 34 years ago. Some things never change. One Mustang owner had the foolishness to complain about the looks of GTO's tail lights and exhaust. Typical view a Mustang owner gets... So Ford can put a blower on a DOHC V8 and make it outrun a N/A "pushrod" engine? Big deal. Can we put the same blower on the Goat?

Well the Shelby is supposed to handle well too, although its a pig. Anyone know how much the Roush weighs? If the Roush is using the 3v engine like i think it does, the shelby would be more moddable.
I'd take either one, Roush if I was keeping it mostly stock, or Shelby if i was looking for as much power as i could get.
maybe with these cars coming out the 03-04 cobras will drop into my price range (15kish) :icon16:

it also weighs 18million tons. the roush is over atleast 500 lbs lighter. the price on every shelby is also marked up 10k at the very least, but you probably couldnt get one for that. the roush is more of a sports car while the shelby is more of a muscle car. dont get me wrong i like the shelby, but i am somewhat dissapointed in the performance for having that much hp. and its all because of the weight.

OH yeah deffinetly. An modded GTO would stomp ground on a modded mustang easy as hell. The maggies give the goats like 560 horsepower.......at the wheels!
thats over 620 crank. Ive seen daily driven goats with less then 8 grand dropped in running 11 secs. Turboed 5.7s run 9s! but for camparison's sake I always look at stock for stock and in that prespective the Shelby is the bigger bully then the GTO. now mod and well......there really is no replacement for displacement:wink:
go go GTO

thats not a good comparison, because the shelby is already boosted, and the engine is made for boost from the factory. everyone knows its easier to get power out of a boosted engine. and its harder to boost a N/A engine than add boost to a boosted engine.

so your telling me you can get more power out of a 5.4 liter engine then you could from a 6.0 liter if they where both boosted???
the Shelby has 500hp with the boost on, with light mods like Intake, headers, exhaust and tune itd be 560-570 easy.
the GTO with a maggie SC makes 620. add the same mods as above and you get even more.

well possibly yes, because of the dohc technology. you commonly see how ohc engines of a much smaller size put out the same power as larger pushrod engines. but i like pushrods anyway and i dont think theres that big a difference in normal street engines as far as efficiency. also, believe me ford probably had to work to make the gt500 not have more than 500hp. like i mentioned before, the roush with the 3v 4.6l is making 415hp on only 5psi. now we are talking about a 5.4l 4v engine that is essentially the same engine with more displacement, and 4v. im not sure how much psi they are making but it cant be much, and id imagine that it would be insanely easy to get more power out of it. remember the terminator (03 cobra), simple mods and you would easily see 450+ whp. again, thats a 4.6l engine.
but thats not quite what i was getting at. i was pointing out how the gt500 is already boosted and its way easier to get more power out of a car thats already boosted. all you need to do is turn up the boost. instead of boosting an N/A engine. boosting a N/A engine involves a lot of work and money and most likely plenty of problems. ive done it. so yes, its easier to get power out of a boosted engine. which is what i was saying. another thing, your talking about simple mods to one and a major mod to another. another reason why it wasnt a good comparison.
i'm not talking about the weight, i'm talking about the styling..i bet that fat stang ass would float pretty well
ehh well the styling is hit or miss really, seems most people love it, but some hate it. i like it obviously.... and you dont.

Smaller engine. LOL the 4.6 liter Modular ford engine is damn near twice the size of the LS1 dimensionally. I took one out of a Saleen at Race Prep. They informed me that the modular ford engine is roughly the same size as a big block from the 60's. Don't look at the size liters wise. I can assure you the heads on ford make it a far larger engine.
Onto the subject of the GT500. It has more stout internals then the GTO, cause well, it was designed for boost. It's more or less the Ford GT block minus the dry sump oiling and some other odds and ends. In short it can hold more boost then the LS2 can. The LS2 is wickedly smooth for a N/A motor though. It's all just a matter of how much money you wanna pump into a car.
P.S. good luck getting a GT500 for $42K. Try more like $60K+.
but thats not quite what i was getting at. i was pointing out how the gt500 is already boosted and its way easier to get more power out of a car thats already boosted. all you need to do is turn up the boost. instead of boosting an N/A engine. boosting a N/A engine involves a lot of work and money and most likely plenty of problems. ive done it. so yes, its easier to get power out of a boosted engine. which is what i was saying. another thing, your talking about simple mods to one and a major mod to another. another reason why it wasnt a good comparison.
It has more stout internals then the GTO, cause well, it was designed for boost. im well aware of that, and thats not my only complaint with those engines, but they are reliable atleast and its still a good engine. even still, it may be larger outside but the displacement is what matters in what we were talking about. its actually kind of funny because the 4.6l is a 281 and it is quite a bit larger than the 351w.

It ain't just large. We almost blew our back out lifting it. That's one heavy ass engine.
BTW it ain't about what power you put down, but what track times you run IMHO. I think too many people focus on how much power a car puts out, and don't analyze what it runs (Which is usually attributable to power over the curve). The C5 Z06 is a perfect example of a car that is an over achiever. It only puts out around 350whp stock, but it can run w/ a Viper GTS that has 40whp more then it (Suspension setup is a good thing).

thats a good point, but i think the mustang gt's do ok. 300hp and a 13.5 1/4 really isnt bad at all if u ask me. now the time in car&driver for the gt500 was very dissapointing to me. but those idiots dont know how to drive, every car they run is way slow compaired to every other time you see. they only got the shelby down to 12.9... theres something wrong there.
the 4.6 aluminum block is 174 lbs though . but to tell you the truth im not sure how often they use that one. however then engine is actually kinda heavy because of the other components, its 614lbs, thats the dohc version, which obviously since its dohc has more components and more weight than the sohc versions.

Let me apologize in advance for the hijack but I was just about to post a kill of a new Mustang GT when I saw this thread...
Don't you hate when people merge into your lane RIGHT in front of you even though there's nobody behind you for hundreds of feet. Very annoying. So anyways this guy and his friend in a brand new black Mustang GT tried to pull that crap so I closed the gap in a hurry. The two lanes merged into one and I see two angry pissed off 30 something dorks screaming at me in my rear view mirror. Once another lane started I see the guy in the Mustang getting ready to whip around me even though my blinker's on and I'm trying to get around the semi in front on me. So I whip out and piss in his cheerios one more time. He starts flashing the headlights so I just downshifted into 2nd and paced the semi. Now he's really pissed so I pulled forward and into the right lane. It's like 100 degrees here this week so all of our windows were down. As they pass me all I hear is f-bombs and shouting. I look over and they both look away. About a mile down we end up getting onto the same onramp. The vagina boys start revving the engine like I'm driving a Hyundai as they're waiting for the light to turn green. Up ahead the 2 lanes merge into one as they enter the freeway so I know it's on if we go. I look over, give them a thumbs up and smile then slowly turn it upside down as I make a sad face. That really pissed them off so as the passenger leaned out the window to say something the 4G63 went BWAP BWAP BWAP so I didn't have to hear his potty mouth. Once I saw the cross traffic's light go yellow I held it at about 5.8k RPM's. It's been a while since I launched the car so I wasn't exactly overflowing with confidence. Light turns green and I drop the clutch to the tune of 4 spinning and chirping tires. The race should have been over but I wasn't taking any chances because of the lanes merging ahead. I'm not sure when they let off, but I was at about 115mph when I merged and they were at least 100ft back. I never saw them again. They stayed back.
BTW...my buddy had a deposit down on a GT500. The dealer called them to say they're getting allocation in a few months. He asked the price and they said MSRP was $38k. He said cool and they said, "but we're asking $30k OVER that price". OMFG. He said he'll keep his 997 for another year.

They're asking $30,000 over the sticker? that's insane. You can get a C6 Z06 for that price... and it's a better car in every aspect. Minus it doesn't have 2 useless back seats.

I hate gettin pushed on for passing on the highway. My grandfather is oblivious to such threats as a rev or a horn blair. One time, he and i were in his (r.i.p) fast ass Trans Am (i don't remember much, was 8 yrs old) and we got pushed on by some civic dx hatch. he raced them up to around 110 and they ran away.. haha :)

'05 Evo RS with full 3" TBE (DP, HFC, CB) and an EcuTek flash and dyno tune from Gruppe-S. It hit about 260awhp on their stingy Mustang dyno and that's good for between 290-300awhp on a Dynajet. My 30k mile service is on Friday then the Walbro 255 and 264/272 HKS cams go in. :naughty:

Oh yeah, alot of stuff around cary/raleigh NC is. The solstice is selling for high 20's-30k, right across from the 25k ls2 GTO :screwy: havent seen the prices for the Sky, but im sure its pretty comparable.
I've only seen one Z06 in the dealerships, the guys said they sell out within a day or two.

I've heard that you can get an 06 GTO for less then $30K right now. That's a pretty good deal.
If I purchased one i'd be working on doing some weight reduction.

If I purchased one i'd be working on doing some weight reduction. Me too. They aren't big cars. I pulled up next to one and it's the same size as my Evo. They're just so damn heavy...like the 350Z and the R32. If you could shave just 200lbs off the weight of that GTO it could be a much more tossable car with the right suspension mods. I guess straightline speed was the priority with Pontiac and that's fine with me. There's no debating that it's a quicker, faster, better handling car than any of the GTO's released in the 60's or 70's.

thing is, the gm small block v8 is so compact that the engine probably isnt the reason its heavy either. its a shame that cars are getting so much heavier. i think its only a matter of time until someone comes out with a very light car, sells a lot, and starts a trend.

Toyota tried that with it's last Celica and bombed. I think it would have been a huge success if it was rear wheel drive, but eh, what do I know.
