I have a chance to purchase a 83 AMC with less than 59000 miles. Its been in storage for 10 years and last started 5 years ago.
replaced the fuel pump and battery. The car still can't start, it does crank and feel llike it want to start. There is spark the carbutor is dirty but it appears fuel is getting in there. Gas was left in the car we added new fuel. I"m open for any and all suggestions

Drop a couple drips of gas down the carb.

I agree, Drain the old gas, put in a new fuel filter and put some new gas in. Then, a few, repeat few squirts of gas in the carb and try it again.

After that many years of sitting, there might be some valves that are stuck. If one or two the intake valves are not closing, then during the compression stroke the air blown back into the intake manifold will mess up the induction for other cylinders. A compression check would show this, as low compression. A cure is to remove the rocker covers and drip light oil onto the valve mechanisms, around the stems.

It sounds like the fuel system might need a deeper cleaning, especially the carburetor and fuel lines. Try checking for clogged fuel filters, and consider draining any remaining old fuel from the tank. You could also inspect the ignition system for any issues. Good luck!
