Trunk Question

Hi, I have a 93 Deville that has a problem with the trunk closing. The problem is I have the automatic pull down feature and I have the battery disconected. When I go to close the trunk it does not catch because it does not have any power. My question is there anyway to close the trunk with the pulldown feature disabled? Thanks

The trunk latch should still catch even though power is disconected. If the pulldown is all the way in the down position, the latch may not be reaching it. This is what I did as a temporary fix until I can fix the pulldown motor switch.

1). Hook your battery back up.

2). Disconect the plug going into the pulldown motor.

3). Take the switch off the pulldown motor exposing two contacts.

4). Find the wire that is always hot. I think it's the orange one.

5). Tap into that wire with a length of wire.

5). Take another length of wire and connect it to a ground. ( I used the bolt holding the assembly to the body.)

6). Now touch the end of the ground to one contact and the end of the hot wire to the other contact. If the motor isn't shot, it should either move up or down depending on how you hooked up the wires. If it's going the wrong way then simply reverse the wires on the contacts.

7). Keep adjusting it up or down until you can close the trunk manually.

I hope this helps. I am not a full time mechanic so I can't take responsibility if your car blows up as a result of my advice. This is what I did and it worked great.
