I've seen a 68 or 69 chevelle 4 door locally for sale. He is asking $1000, but I assume I could get it bought for less. Are there any valuable parts that interchange with a 2 door chevelle of the same year? I would drive it for a while and eventually part it out...I'd just like something to play with and be able to recoup my investment later on.

Hmm, you might be on a good deal there. Even the four door models can look awesome when restored. But if you want it for 2-door parts, I think the front clip is the same and those are valuable. There may be some subtle rear body part differences that could still fit a two door although an expert would point them out as not original. Window cranks, and some styles of armrests might fit. The dash should match too. But do some research to be certain on all this. Another possibility is that the four door may interchange with the wagon parts? The Chevelle wagons look good restored with a decent set of SS wheels or Cragar mags and a hot paint job.
By the way, they are remarkably few body parts from a 1968 that fit a 1969, regardless of Chevelle model. They look similar, but look closely and you'll see all the things the engineers changed for 1969.
Got any pictures or more details of this car your looking at?

I have never really played with 4 door cars but from dealing with my customers and their crap. Nothing from the fire wall back body wize will. All running gear (chasis included) will. Bumpers, tail lights, trunk lid, and trunk trim, and front clip will. And most cosmetic glory chrome will. For a grand I would definately do it. You will not get ANY intirior exchange with the excaption of dash and steering column

I would go for it. That sounds like a good deal to me. I bought my 4 door for $200. They have got to worth more that $1000.
