Can anyone tell me the precise location of the orifice tube on this truck? I'm about to flush the condensor / evaporator and then replace compressor, orifice tube, and accumulator, etc. I suspect it's in the line from the condensor where it enters the firewall ... but would like to know for sure before getting started.

Look in the line that goes to the accumulator ,the line should have a joint/connector there where it goes fom large to small, orifice is in the large line on the compressor side.

I don't have a 97 but on my 90, it is in the hardline from the condenser to the evaporator (not the accumulator).
Pretty sure it would be the same on the 97.

On your '90 truck ... was the orifice in the hardine right out of the condensor or closer to the firewall? On my '97, I've got a connector right at the firewall were the hardline connects to a slightly larger line going to the evaporator. This larger line (you can't see but about 1/2" of it before goes behind the firewall) looks like the right diameter to accomodate the orifice tube ... but I've been fooled before. I'm going to tackle this project this weekend ... and I'll let you know for sure.
BTY, I'm planning to just use denatured alcohol and compressed air for flushing ... denatured alcohol should OK right?

Sounds like you have the orifice located, they make a specific flush for this purpose, available at Napa or any " real" parts house.

In the 90 model year, it was either located at the evaportor or at the condenser. Mine was at the condenser.

According to LMC Truck, http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cd/t106.html yours is also at the condensor (in the hard line).

good luck getting the line off without pulling the threads. you will probablly need a new condensor and manifold hoses before all is said and done

That's what tube wrenches are for!

I'm not talking about rounding the flare nut off The threads tend to fuse together and pull or completely strip out coming apart.
