i don't know if this should be here or in the Politics section. it's more bitching than having to do with politics so i chose to put it here. you can move it you feel the need to do so.
so last night a wild fire broke out in our city (Albuquerque, New Mexico). It is right along the river and there is a little forest along there (we call it the Bosque). Well since it's right along the river they are fighting it with planes and ground crews.
the first thing that gets at me is the fact that EVERYONE in our city knows that we have not had any rain and that anything could start a fire. obviously the fire was man made because there were no clouds out side yesterday. they can't use the excuse that they were cold because it was 95 degrees here yesterday, 35 degrees celsius for the people that use Celsius. it is just plain stupid to go out and play with fire in something this dry.
the second thing, and this is the big one, the President is coming here to stump for some candidate. well since he is flying into our air force base the secret service has ordered that all the planes and helicopters fighting the fire be grounded before the Pres. comes into town. So basically my city is burning while the President isn't even in our air space yet. a plane with water can do some real damage i guess, especially to air force one :dunno: the other thing is that if anything were to happen you can get anywhere with in 30 seconds of take off from our Air Force base.
i just find it really dumb that our air support to help fight the fire is grounded because the Govt. feels that the air will not be safe. come on, if they knew anything about New Mexico then they would know that people could barely afford a car that has a bumper attached WITHOUT duct tape, let alone buy a plane to jeopordize the air space.

Wow - while I see the reasoning behind closing the airspace for the pres to come in, it doesn't make any sense at all to stop the firefighting efforts...it's :bs: Guess they're paranoid about the non-security-cleared pilots flying the firefighting aircraft. :disappoin
And, playing with fire in dry conditions: :nono:

Well, once your city has burnt to the ground, GW can declare is a 'natural disaster area' and give you all some tax dollars to compensate ya....
Tell him the oil wells are on fire and he would insist the planes keep flying....

Is the fire actually "in the city" or way on the outskirts? I just moved to AZ, and there's nowhere for a fire to break out in the towns. I think you're just looking for things to get pissed at Bush about. Socialists suck my nuts.
