Hey, where is the F1's gas tank located?

In between the driver seat and the engine. This is actually a great place to put it as changes in the fuel level don't have a great affect on F/R weight distribution or overall handling balance.

I'm sure I have some kind of diagram or sketch that shows it. I'll post it later unless someone else has one handy.

This may not be the exact shape, but this is roughly the location of the fuel bladder in the F1.

Because it is made of rubber, it needs to be replaced every 10 years. The Ferrari F50 and euro-spec F40s were the same way.

Ferrari recommend replacing the bag tank every 10 years, but McLaren strongly recommend that an owner replace the F1's tank every 5 years.

Hi I have made a tank to fit a Mclaren that is made from Aluminium and foam filled adds about 1lb to the weight but will last 20+ years.

more info please.
a lot of enquiring minds here sir.
i.e. Is it fitted to a real F1 or for show?
if yes it is in an F1, which chassis?
do you have any pictures?
expect more questions :)

behind the driver, infront of the engine. Thats like the perfect location for the tank. Btw, do you have any idea how many gallons it holds? because if it spans the whole width of the chassis then it must be more than the Enzo's 30 gallons right? Also do you have any pics of just the chassis itself?

The F1's tank holds just 19.8 gallons of fuel. I guess the Enzo finally wins one.
I don't have any great photos just showing the chassis. I'll try to put up some of what I have later on though.

Afraid can't give much information, all I know is I was brought a sketch of the original tank with dimensions, and asked to manufacture an aluminium copy. Capacity was somewhere in the region of 90 litres and cost the customer £400. I think it may have beem for something other than a completely original car as I can not see anyone compromising originallity for the sake of a fuel tank on such an important piece of automotive history. I have heard rumours of a crash damaged shell getting out into the world in this country (England) but can not confirm anything.

haha yea, thats probably the only thing the Enzo'll ever have on the F1. For the Enzo,I thought it was 30 gallons because in road and track's data panel they said like 29.1 gallons with a 374 mile cruising range. heres the link

omg bro thats it. Thats exactly what I was looking for, but I couldn't find it any where. Thank you. Now the F1's smaller tank capacity makes sense, because the tank only spans about the width of the driver's seat. I was just wondering, are those rectanuglar spaces at the bottom of the fuel tank area for the gear shift linkage?

The F1's fuel tank size is usually quoted in Imperial (even by Road & Track in their review of the F1 in Dec, '97). An Imperial gallon is roughly 20% bigger than a US gallon.
Easiest to stick with liters: 90 v 110
