GTO vs. Mach 1 Mustang

nah j/k it was a nice run.
I had just passed the toll booth on my way to work when I hear two howling cars off in the distance closing in quick on my six.
I look back and see a black G35 coupe and a white mustang racing off the toll gates.
I drop from fifth to 4th and get to one side so they can finish thier race. The Stang had at lest 4 cars on the G35 by the time they pass me.
I start tailing the stang and line up side by side at 80 mph, we take off and I'm pulling away slowly. By 120 I had 2 cars on him.
we line up again and this time I pulled a bit more.
we went for a third but the idiot in the G35 cut us off and blocked him. We both hammered it and sonic boomed the G35 back to 2003. :rofl:
he just couldnt hang.

What the hell is a G35 350 small block? Are you sure your not thinking of a Chevy instead of a Infinity? But then agian, they are practically the same thing. heh

Well, seeing as how the G35 is down some 20 to 30hp depending on its year to the Mach1 it doesn't suprise me, and that the Mach1 is down some 80hp from the GTO doesn't suprise me that the GTO pulled it.

well the GTO does have a 80-90 hp advantage... and its not like the race was that bad.

Good kill. The Mach 1 isn't that great from a roll. Race one from a dig and you may have a tough challenge, as i've heard/read that they are easy to launch.

Nice kills. That was the outcome I expected from a roll. With weight and IRS playing less of a roll your car has a pretty big advantage over the Mach 1. I believe the Mach 1's are supposed to be faster in a straight line since they are a good bit lighter and have SRA. From what I heard they are about as quick as the LS1 F-Bods from a dig. The LS1's/2's trap a bit higher though I'm sure.

It's a low 13 second car. About the same as an LS1 from a roll, though the LS1 has a slight edge.

It's their suspension that lets them hang with an LS1 from a dig. They typically dyno around 280whp, so they are making a little more then 310hp at the flywheel.

I ran a modified Mach I in 4th and 5th gear (not the STi's strong point), and he inched on me the whole time. I'm sure now that you could beat an STi on a highway run with the GTO.

How much faster is the '05 and '06 GTO versus the '04 GTO. When my Evo was bone stock I abused a GTO (with single exhaust and no hood vents) driving back from Lake Tahoe. Most of the fun occured between 3.5k and 5.5k feet of elevation so the NA engine surely suffered more than mine. Just the same it was convincing ownage and the GTO driver did the "I'm not worthy" hand gestures when I slowed down and got next to him. You figure a stock '05 Evo is close to 250awhp and now I'm pushing 300awhp (with new cams sitting patiently in their HKS packaging waiting for a fuel pump to arrive), so would I be anywhere near an '05/'06 model in power?

The '04 GTO's had a LS1 with 350hp, and the '05/06 GTO's have the LS2 with 400hp. The car weighs in about 3700lbs.

So you can do the math to figure out how fast they are... they handle decently for a GT car though. I believe .86 on the skid pad... not too bad. Not great either.

Power/weight may be close as is (without the cams) but you are still down ~35whp in power. The other thing is these cars are running pig rich from the factory. Straightening out the A/F ratio should get the 05-06 GTO close to 350rwhp unmodded. I'm going to re-dyno after the A/F is fixed to see what this car is really putting down. Then the modding can begin.

Depends on the dyno. I put down 218whp stock on the Gruppe-S Mustang dyno. It's a ball buster. Comparatively an '06 WRX puts down about 178awhp and an STi puts down about 215whp. It's a means of measurement. Nothing more, nothing less. If you put down 300whp on the Gruppe-S dyno you're about 400whp on a dynojet and into the 11's with a good launch.
