help!!!
my problem is this:
i'm driving on the highway at a constant speed, and keeping my RPM at 3,000. however, from time to time the tachdometer will jump to 4,000 - 5,000 rpm for a few seconds, by itself, and come back down to 3,000 rpm. (btw, it does this when the car is at idle as well)
another problem that i'm experiance is this (really hard to describe):
let say i shift gear from 2nd to 3rd the tachdometer is at 3,000 rpm, but the engine is not. i actually have to press harder on the gas pedal to make the engine catch up. this doesn't happen all the time, but it occurs often enough, especially when i'm trying to have a fast acceration.
i believe the two problems r related. can someone help me?

Seems to me like your car is bogging down and the car is compensating for it by increasing the rpm's. How are you on the maintenance schedule? Do you service your car at the proper intervals? What type of fuel do you use?(Octane) When was the last time you gave your car a tune up? Are all your sensors functioning properly?
Once you've answered these questions, you might have a better idea of exactly what is wrong with your car. Let me know if you need more assistance.

The first one sounds like the rev counter is shot, or the wiring between it and the ECU is suspect. I assume the rev counter jumps but the engine speed doesn't change?
The second one sounds like the clutch is slipping. Re-adjust the cable and it should be OK. Instructions for adjusting the clutch cable can be found on Primeraweb (http://www.primeraweb.co.uk) on the "maintainance and troubleshooting" page.
Hope this helps.

DVSNCYNIKL,
i bought the car last yr, used. the maintance has be regular since i got the car. i dunno if the previous owner or owners did do maintance on a regular bases.
anathony,
yes, that's correct. the rev. on the meter goes up, but the engine didn't. cluch slipping huh! i'll check out the link that u've provided.
thanks x2

You say the engine tacho revs up at idle so it wont be clutch slip. Check you tacho/wiring and ECU.
The 2nd problem sounds like clutch slip
Are you meaning that as you drive along, if you push your foot flat down the engine just revs and sounds like a auto as you slowly pick up speed. ??
If it does it clutch slip.
In most cases i have had it wont do it when the car is cold, but when the car gets warm it starts to do it then.
