Hey guys i am buing myfirst car . I was thinking of buying a contour svt as my first car. Do you guys think this would be a good car?

And how much HP does stock svt has? And are there any superchargers or tubochargers for an svt?

98s had 195 hp
late 99 models and 00 had 200 hp.

ADC is still making turbo kits, just not the $5500 and $6000 kits anymore. They are in the process of making a cheaper kit thats going to be around $3K, but wont make the power of the first gen kits. I would expect almost 300 whp would certainly be attainable though.

Vortech does make a supercharger, but its pretty much junk. It used to carry a 100% failure rate due to jackshaft splines stripping. However, they have now fixed that problem, taken out essential components to the kit, and raised the price. wooo! :screwy: Btw, the ADC turbo kit absolutely crushes the vortech kit when it comes to power under the curve.

There is a roots style supercharger kit thats in the works by Thomas Knight which would make some nice low end grunt. They are now taking orders. I think the first few people to order can get a kit for less than $2K. Pictures and info have all been discussed on www.contour.org.

www.arizonadynochip.com

Their website stills lists the T-28 and T3/T4 turbo kit which retail for $5500 and $6000. They sold their last kit about a few weeks ago and havent updated their site. They are in development of a T3 kit. More info about the kit and what it includes is in the forced induction branch of the contour.org forums.

The Ford Contours/Mercury Mystique have a drawback, the engines and transmissions are junk. Most transmission shops will not rebuild the transmissions,Ford is picky on the transmission. Most auto salvage yards sell the transmissions real easy and have one year interchange. The ground wires have to be in the right spot or the plastic drums inside will melt if the ground wires are in the wrong spot. The drums inside the transmissions are plastic

zetec and duratec motors are not junk, Do some research and you'd know this.

even then a CD4e isn't 'that' bad.. look at the ZX2 Autos. I have a atx zetec with almost 150k on it with the stock transmission and it's never given me a problem.

i bought my contour sport as my second car.. ive driven over 13,000 miles in under a year with it with no problems. the dohc is a good engine as long as you take care of it. proper oil changes with good oil etc. take care of the car and it will take care of you. if you have any problems give me a buzz i detail cars as well as working on them as a hobby.

My friend had a 1998 Contour SVT. I loved it. It was Toreador Red which I think is the best color. The car was such a sleeper. Nobody had any idea wut it was. I wish they still made them. I'd take a Contour SVT over a Focus SVT. I think Ford made a mistake by discontinuing the Contour/Mystique.

The Contour and Mystique do not sell good at all.Ford products do not have any resale at all and are very hard to sell.My father had one for sale since he is an used car dealer and it sat after having no lookers. My father took it the auction and "dumped" it,will not buy any Ford products after sitting and after putting money into them.Ford made a very good decision to drop the mystique and countour.

ok........

honestly i think you should look into contours more before you speak about them ive never heard of any major problems from people i know who own them just because you replaced 3 motors doesnt mean they were bad motors all togethor it means the peoples cars you worked on didnt know how to take care of them any car will last as long as you want if you take care of it a friend of mine just sold a late 80's toyota pick up with a carbrated 22r had 550k miles on it and still will pull a boat like no tomorrow.
