I currently own a 2003 Camry LE, 4 cyl. Have been looking with interest at the adds and reviews for the new 2007 Camry LE V6. I have not seen anything under the engine specs for the compression ratio, and therefore whether it would need to burn premium gas. Does anyone know? TIA

According to MSN Autos the compression ratio for the 2.4 ltr is 9.8:1 and the 3.5 ltr is 10.8:1 Don't know about the type fuel it uses but, I would think if Toyota wants to maintain their #1 selling sedan moniker they'd be fools to have it use anything but regular. http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/spec_engines.aspx?year=2007&make=Toyota&model=Camry#mpg

Basically, the 2007 Camry (Gen 6) I-4 engine is a carryover from the Gen 5/5.5 (2002-2006) models. A 2AZ-FE engine is the base engine for the 2007 Camry I-4s. So most likely, the engine you have in your 2003 is the same in the 2007 with minor changes but not major.
As for the V6, the power output is 268 HP, 24 valve with dual VVT-i. Quite nice really. :D

Thanks for your comments guys. Xspeed, my question is, does the V6, which I now see, has a compression ratio of 10.8 to 1, have to burn premium gas only? Based on the CR itself, it would have to. Unless Toyota has some trick to let it burn regular. I know you can have an anti-knock sensor that would retard the spark, but that kind fo defeats the purpose. With gas pretty expensive now, the differance between regular and premium becomes an issue. What I don't understand is why Toyota, with the Camry, which I consider a pretty pedestrian car, feels they need to go for 268 HP.Why not 200 or 210. This would still be a big jump over the four. This is not a Lexus.

2006 Camry with 3.3 V6 is already rated at 210 hp. Problem is that Honda Accord 3.0 V6 is rated 244 hp. Have to up horsepower to match or exceed Honda's or lose sales even though 210 hp is enough. Many buyers will purchase based on horsepower.

"Many buyers will purchase based on horsepower"
Sad but, true. It's the old more is better theory. Unfortunately, that "more" in this case, adds to the 40K+ killed every year. Little Johnny thinks he can handle anything. Many times little Johnny can't and pays the price, killing others in the process. Sad but, true.

That's because Toyota can pull it off. There are actually many camry owners that wished for more power, but Toyota hasn't really looked into until last year designing the 2007 camrys. Toyota felt that the Camry should break out of the "boring, grocery getter" design and aimed for the Y-gen with this new one.
Their recently new dual VVT-i engine is capable of pulling out more power but still manage a high mileage. The 2007 Camry V6 is capable of going 22/31 miles per gallon. Which is pretty good for a V6.
And yes, the V6 requires you put in Premium Octane 91. Which most new V6s do.
Also, the 2005-2006 models have two V6s. The LE and XLE V6s are 3.0L pushing out 210 hp.
And SE V6 is a 3.3L pushing over 220hp.

Toyota lists 3.0 at 190 hp and 3.3 at 210 hp for 2006 Camry, likely lower due to revised hp measurements, and enough to convince some people to buy V6 Accords.

Also not to mention the use of fuel they used for the measurements. These were actually measured with 87 Octane. My friend's 2006 SEV6 was dynoed at 219 hp using 91 octane. Just a small note. :)
