Looking at Buying My First Audi...

Hello... my Name is Kunundrum and for the last 8 years I have tinkered with honda's, from turbo to nitrous fed fully built motors.
Been wanting to get something else for a long time and kind have my mind set on a A4 probably a 98-01 unit. I have found 2 units a pretty good price. one is a 2.8 5spd and the other is a 1.8t possibly sport, both are quattro units
the 98 2.8 has 210 000 KM ( 1km = 1.6miles)
the 98.5 1.8t has about 175 000km
the 2.8 is about 2000$ cheaper than the 1.8t but I know the 1.8 has more potential... but I don't honestly know if I want to modify it that much... I know that the only real power addre for the 2.8 is the supercharger kit that is about 5k... for about 300hp.
I know APR makes a ECU kit for the 1.8t that bumps up the power to ~200hp and with the milage on the car it's probably about the time that turbo needs to be replaced... possibly to one of the newer K04 units... or something similar... my goal is something reliable and stealthy with about 300hp... and if I can still maintain desent highway gas milage that would not be a bad thing either.
thoughs sugestion...
P.S. the only mod I know I want to do is the turbo Porsche 996 4 piston Caliper upgrade and nice 18" wheels and tires.

If you do not plan on many mods and want 300+hp I would just get a B5 S4. With just a chip+exhaust the B5 S4 can easily get to around 300hp.

you dont even need an exhaust for a 300 hp S4, just a chip...but of course the S4 will put you back a little bit more than an A4

1. I'm a student, so I plan on buying the car outright, no loan.
2. I have a buget of about 8000$cnd and a S4 as much as I would love to get does not fit into the relm of my buget.
Looking fro Pros and Cons 2.8 Vs. 1.8T
assume the car will be driven stock(ish) for at least a year before any major mods are performed. (new turbo or Supercharger)

Based on what you say I would go with the 1.8TQ, the 2.8 with a SC on it will only see about 275bhp at best on street fuel. PES only got 295bhp on race fuel and every one running SC e.8's have never been able to get that magic 295 quoted by PES I should know I have one.
If you do go for the 1.8TQ then don't bother with the K04 you only get about 250bhp out of it may be a little more but nowhere near the 300bhp your looking for. To get that 300bhp you should be looking at the GT28RS upward to get that 300bhp. As for chipping their are quite a few companies that can chip the 1.8T and get it to around the 200bhp mark and then add a N75 J Valve and you will se around 200-220bhp and keep you happy untill you get the money for a big Turbo kit.
