Hey everyone, I have a 76 Chevelle in showroom condition, had it since 76 was my moms car, got it when i was 16 in 1980. It had a L6 250 in it, ran great but the rear main seal was way overdue and leaked oil.
Anyway my son is now 16 and its time to pass it down, he wanted a 454 in it, we comprimised on a 350, bought a 76 el camino, engine ran good, pulled the engine, it has an eldebrock intake and a holley 4160 - r4608 on it. Compression was good, i did a complete gasket set on the engine and rebuilt carb.
Dropped it in and now it runs like crap. My gut is it is either a timing issue or carb issue. If i set the timing to 8btdc, it backfires thru the carb under load, if i advance the timing to 16 (last marking on plate) it still pops, if i go off the scale it stops popping but is advance so far it is hard to start.
Called Holley tech support, they told me to run it without the vacuum advance and set it to 16, tried this, no pop but it doesnt have a lot of power.
Anyone have any suggestions????:evillol:
