Hi, I just bought a 06' Taurus and on the head unit it says disc 1-6. So, where can I get the changer that I need and do I have to take the dash apart to get behind the main unit? Where does the changer mount to? In the trunk or under a seat? Also, is the 06' changer the same as any other model year. (05', 04', etc?) I was told by the sales man, you just keep loading the disc into the head unit. Well, that didn't work. F'n sales man. . .

:banghead:

Thanks,
Dannielle

On a 2006?
It will be in the trunk on under the glovebox. As for a replacement, if your not willing to order it from Ford, I would go to my local sound shop and get an OEM Replacement for about the same price.
And if it is a 2006 they should probably have the part already in stock at a decent Ford house.

Well, its not under the glove box. I heard a female cable is in a kick panel or already in the trunk. Is it tucked some where or what?

Thanks!

Since the car is a 2006, don't you have the owner's manual? There should be directions in the owner's manual.

It wouldn't surprise me if the 2006 has the in-dash CD changer, my wifes 2002 Lincoln LS (another Ford product) has the in-dash changer, and it works like the salesman told you it does.

If the car really doesn't have the in-dash changer, then the changer would mount in the trunk on the driver's side, and the cable will be behind the fabric lining on the side of the trunk if 2006 is like late 1990's and early 2000's cars.

My head unit says tune disc 1-6 but I don't have the disc changer.

What year is your Taurus? If yours is also a 2006, then they must not have in-dash changers as the salesman claims, and the changer would mount in the trunk.

i just bought an '05 with the same markings on the head unit. seems that mine is only a single cd player as well. i think they designed that on april 1st.

Its the same stereo as I have in my 01, except where I have a tape deck, you have a CD slot. The head unit Is the same, so there should be a cable in the rear of the car, behind the trunk lining on the driver side (goes into the radio "brain") that you can hook up a factory 6 disk CD changer into. No running cables or anything, just as simple as buying the unit and plugging it in.

i don't care about it enough to spend the money. like one of the above posters, i just thought i had a six disc changer. it really doesn't matter to me since i mainly listen to talk radio.

All Taurus radios have the markings even if they do not have the changer. My 01 SEL has the changer in the center armrest, while my fathers 01 se has the same 1-6 markings on the radio, but he has no changer.

I think they designed 1 head unit and put all the same markings on it.

I have a 2003 ford taurus se, and it also says something about a cd changer, but I can't find it anywhere. I've checked the console, and in the trunk. There is this plug on the driver's side under the steering wheel, but I didn't see anything about it in the owner's manual. I'm certain a cd changer can be hooked up because why else would they include that feature, for you to switch from the single cd to the cd changer.

I guess I'll keep looking.

Plug under the wheel is probably for the scan tools, leave it alone.. your radio is probably just a head unit, the chassis unit is usually mounted in the rear over the left wheel well, accessible by removing the trim panel.. If you have a changer, it will be also located behind the trim panel closer to the rear I think.. for the sedan.. if you buy an aftermarket changer, with needed adapter, it will plug right into the rear radio unit.

Is a harness needed? I've been seeing a lot of cd changers sold with a harness, but I don't know if I need a harness, and if the taurus already has all the wires I need in the back.

EDIT:
Nevermind, I just found out the answer to my question.
