Daytime Running Light (DRL) Module - Location?

I've searched through a number of web posts and can't find anything specific to the location of the DRL Module for a 99 Taurus SE.

Ford told me that it's "behind" the passenger headlight, and in fact, I may have to remove the headlight to get to it.

So, in my view, it's in front of the headlamp, as in away from the cabin, otherwise if it were behind the lamp, I'd have to remove the DRL Module to remove the lamp... no?

Anyway, I can't find the DRL Module on the right side of the engine; any ideas where it's located? Should it be easy to see?

I purchased one of those Hynes (sp/haines) auto books from Canadian Tire, little help when it comes to this DRL Module.

When Ford refers to the headlight, they are referring to the driver's side (in US) headlight assembly, which contains the headlight lens, reflector, and bulb. When Ford mentions that it is behind the headlight, they are talking with respect to standing in front of the car, hood up, looking at the engine.

You may find use in the following thread:

Thanks. So that means the module is on the driver's side?

I'm going to try take a picture of the engine area and submit, because for something that's displayed in the drawing, it's still not easy to find.

Thanks again.

Read the thread, 99 wiper lever, there's info in there about the drl module,,, I believe it's located down towards the bottom, on the frame, beneath the headlamp.. electrical connector and two screws, check down by the air delector for the rad

Oh TaurusKing, I could have used that advice hours ago, I just got in from fixing it, but you are 100% right, that's where I found it, not "behind" :banghead:the headlights, but more "below" :grinyes: the headlight. As a matter of fact, the only way I could access the DRL was through the wheelwell, after removing the splash guard running around the tire well.

I'll need to tell Ford that by mentioning the headlights sent me on a wild goose chase, they really should have said something like.. "access the compartment via the front wheelwell below the headlamp, just above the horn and near the engine's fresh air intake, becasue that's where I found it. I could not get to it from inside the engine compartment...I didn't even need to open the hood to the engine...

This has been a learning experience, at least I know how to remove headlights, a car battery, found a cooling leak (fixed that) and know what road salt tastes like.

Thanks gents.
