Air intake manifold

My 2001 Windstar has 60,000 mi. The air intake manifold was just replaced along with the valve cover. My antifreeze is now brownish in color and smells really bad. Dealer said they didn't have to do anything to the coolant to change these parts, are they right? Before we brought this in we also noticed a little coolant leak from the reservoir, could this be from the cracked intake manifold or something else? By the way what my warranty did not cover Ford picked up the costs because it is defective.

Most likely the dealer only replaced the plastic "upper" portion of the intake manifold. And, in this case, he's right this has nothing to do with coolant passages.

The intake manifold metal "lower" portion is a different matter ... it has coolant passages.

Some folks (me included) have had leaks from the engine "front cover" (where the serpertine belt is) gasket. The water pump is mounted on the "front cover" and it, therefore, has coolant passages.

You need to get this (whatever it is) corrected soon. Do some searches in this forum for additional info.

(BTW, I have not fix my front cover leak ... but I have not yet seen evidence of contaminated oil.)
