I recently bought a used 89 Olds 88 Royale Brougham, not running bad for the condition it is in, but when heat is turned off and you are just crusing a lot of heat seems to be coming out of vents. Fan does kick on and off, I have heard it. I don't know much about cars, any suggestions on what I could check, can't afford to put it in shop. And temp. gauge goes nowhere near hot.

Does it still blow out hot air when the blend door is adjusted?

Thanks for replying. I'm not sure what a blend door is, is that a vent or is it under the dash.

Yes but before you worry about taking it apart, does it still blow hot air when you adjust the temp to a cold setting?

Yes, when you set to the lowest setting it still blows hot, but the problem is that hot air comes out when the climate control is turned off. Thanks ahkjr33@msn.com

If you still get warm air when adjusting the climate control to a colder setting, you should check the blend door underneath the dash for proper movement. I don't remember if it's vacuum or electric activated. As far as the fan control still blowing out air in the off position, it's a common thing, and I honestly don't have a fix for you.
