all of the pioneer stuff i have owned, i have been happy with. my question is about the pioneer gm-x962 (https://www.pioneerelectronics.com/Pioneer/CDA/CarProducts/CarProductDetails/0,1429,21383,00.html). i am looking to upgrade my amp.sub setup i have right now, and came across this amp at best buy. i can get it there for $180, or on the net for $120 plus shipping. bridged, this amp can put out 380 watts RMS which makes this amp about $.30 a watt. versus most amps which are around $1 a watt. sticking with the philosophy of you get what you pay for, i am wondering if this should be taken as a warning sign  . what sub do you think would go well with that also? thanks for the help.:)

Holy sh*t... Pioneer is producing better amps!? But, I have a problem w/ that RMS value it's based on 14.4 V. (It's not really a biggie but, I look for the 12 V (RMS) value.)
You got a good deal going on there... And, yes you can step up to other amps which offer better circuitry... or a class D amp.
The Pioneer amp in question can power an Infinity Kappa Perfect 10se nicely though. (That's what I have... :))
hmmm... I am looking for a better amp... :D

Huhhh ??? Fosgates are known portable heaters, their biggest drawback is that they run so hot

I have a fosgate and a pioneer amp.
Both are great. Had them for 3 years and nothing has gone wrong.

oh - there's nothing wrong with either brand. Just that Rockford's DO run hot, so you have to account for that if you are going to mount them in a location that is not good for cooling them - like an enclosed amp rack. Most of the equipment made by the popular name brands is good if it is used as designed.

i was planning on using this amp to power 1 12" woofer. i was looking at the JL w6 since i could probably have my friend hook me up with one of those. i have another pioneer amp right now powering the speakers inside my car, and a bottom line JBL amp and sub right now, which needs upgrading. i was looking to build a fiberglass enclosure in the trunk of my sol for the sub and figure out some place for the amps. i would probably install something to circulate the air in there, since it gets none now and i dont like that because the JBL amp cuts out from heat. my pioneer amp has never cut out though, and doesnt run any hotter than any other amp i have come across. i was mostly wondering about this amps ability to put out some power and keep it going.
