Hi everybody. I said i would do more detailed rendering of those audi sketches I did. For this wip I'm going to try to get that professional, designer sort of look. It might turn out good, or it might be a disaster, i don't know yet :). So far I'm pretty happy with the initial sketch.

Amazing. The sketch is great and edgy, and the rendering is perfectly colored. One problem though, is that the far front wheel is too big compared to the near front wheel.
Great Job.

Nice work Alex.
I like them all.
Open wheel cars are hard to do period. On the tire issue I have found that doing the near tire first helps. I believe you work left to right when rendering so that may be a step off for you. I have also found that exaggerating the perspective in relation to the vanishing point of the front tires helps a lot too.
Your colors are great and your ability to apply to your non-photo stuff what you learn from your photo stuff is amazing.
You could be one of the greats before you're done.

Thanks for the comments!
Fishstick: Good eye! thanks for pointing that out
Lemorris: thanks for the advice. Open wheel hot rods are a bit more work but it was really fun to draw.
Here's an update:

Bigger than actual size:

BTW: I need your opinion! What do you think I should do with the windows? Tint the crap out of the them or leave them lighter (like the hot rod drawing)?
Thanks for looking

Awesome color + render! It really brings out the edges!
I think you should do a dark-gold tint on the windows, kinda like this (http://img.shopping.com/cctool/PrdImg/images/pr/177X150/00/01/8c/e1/26/26009894.JPG).

Update: started on the front view
http://img83.imageshack.us/img83/2593/audittstage27jr.jpg
Fishstick: thanks for the suggestion. I was actually thinking about doing something close to that color, but now I'm not sure if it would look out of place since the drawing is made mostly up of cooler colors.

Another update, probably the last one before completion.
http://img509.imageshack.us/img509/5577/audittstage36cy.jpg
LA customs: There's no way to really explain how I got the idea... something just came into my mind and I sketched out a few things on paper.
Nicecar: it's a secret :)
No, j/k, I drew the shape of the tire, shaded it with marker, added in the tread lines with a black .1 mm pen, then added gouache highlights where the light would be hitting the parts of the tread indentation. Then I took a 20% cool grey marker and went over the gouache parts that were too bright to tone them down a bit. Hope this helps.

Alex, your work is amazing.
You seem to improve on every single work you post here. The shading is absolutely amazing.
Maybe you show it on the speedanddesign.net forum aswell. There are graduated designers there, they can might help you to go even further.

Daa---ang Alex,
Those look awesome!!
I think I will get into CP.
I have done CP in the past, long past, not cars but animals.
How much time do you spend on your single car CP renderings?
I am just trying to gauge. I thought CPs took a while?
Not trying to be a lazy artist or anything. :)
What size is your Hot Rod?
I am trying to stay w/ 11x14 paper sizes. Any bigger w/ graphite/CP might just take too long. I was doing large pastel renderings then I dropped to 11x14 and things took a lot less time and I used way less art material.
I read--hee hee--that w/ color pencils, after lots of layering, they develope a a clear waxy glaze that is undesirable? Have you found that to be true w/ Prisma CPs?
Thx

Hey thanks for the comments! Knightvision: thanks alot for telling me about the speedanddesign forum.
Al: My all cp renderings are on 9x12" paper and usually take around 15 to 20 hours. Keep in mind that these are the "serious" and slow ones where I use the grid method.
That hot rod took around 4 1/2 hours max (my other marker renderings only took around 3 hrs, but I'm not used to drawing open wheeled hot rods)... with no grid and just a small ref pic. It's in my 8 1/2 x 11" sketchbook. Drawings go alot quicker when you render with markers :)
And yeah, the cp's do give a waxy layer on the paper. The buildup looks like as if you could drip water on a drawing and not have it soak into the paper (not that I've tried, lol). And yes it does give you a glossy shine, which in my opinion, looks great! lol.... well, if I drew horses it wouldn't look so good but the shine suits car renderings really well :)
