Hi guys: I'm new to this forum. I am a Canadian and I now live in Baha Mexico. I have a 1999 Ford Windstar and have been enjoying all of the miscellaneous threads on the Winny's. I need as much info as possible about changing the Struts (and springs) on this vehicle. I can get the Munroe Struts at the local Napa parts store (They mount the new springs as well) here in San Jose (Mexico). Thanks for any info pertaining to this project.

Monroe just came out with a "Quick Strut" for the Windstar....
This unit includes the complete assembly.....Strut, Spring, Upper mounting plate, upper bearing, isolators.....

You might also look into replacing the stabilizer links....as they connect to the strut assembly.
The MOOG part has grease fittings.

wiswind,
I looked for a stabilizer link that had grease fittings, finally gave up. Where is the MOOG part available?

I did some searching on the net and found this site that I believe has the best price on struts: http://www.rockauto.com/.

AutoZone rents the spring compressor.

Why do you want to replace the spring? Is the van sitting too low?

Like Wiswin pointed out that the Ready Strut may be the way to go if you want to replace the spring, bearing, and the mount.

After replacing the struts you will want to get your van aligned.

I found them at www.rockauto.com
I am considering the Quick strut and links....as that is all still original on my '96.

The links are prone to wear out....and as one has done half the replacement job by removing the bolt at the strut....why not finish the job?

The driver side spring is broken, so I thought it best to replace both. The Van has almost 200,000 KM on it.

The driver side spriing is broken. Napa tells me that it's cheaper to buy the strut and spring seperatly than buying the Quickstrut. They assemble the spring on the strut at their place.
My '99 has almost 200,000 KM on it.

STOP!!!
Check with the FORD dealership.
There is a 10 year unlimited mileage warranty on 1995-1998 windstars.

I do NOT know if there is one for the '99 and newer...but certainly worth checking.

This is recall # 01I007000 or NHTSA01I007000

The warranty states that if one spring breaks.....BOTH springs will be replaced at no charge.
This is for ANY owner of the vehicle....not just the original purchaser.
Worth talking with them on a deal for installing new struts into the new spring.....at this age.

Thanks Wiswind, I Did'nt Know About That Broken Spring Replacement From Ford. I Have Already Ordered The Struts And Springs. I'll See If I Can Get Them To Put Them On Free!! That Will Proberbly Include The Alignment Too. What Do You Think?
I'm Living In Mexico Now, So I'm Not Sure That It Will Apply Here Or Not.

I did change out the two struts. I had ordered the struts and springs and when they came in, I had their mechanics install them. It only took the guy about an hour to change them. If any one wants a full description of the process, let me know, as I watched him very carefully while he was doing the job. The Van is sitting 3 inches higher with the new springs etc, and rides like new.
