Gel Pens?!?

I am working on my pro mod and need some lines and dots drawn. I decided to try gel pens. I started and have one whole side of the car done. However. It seems to be drying at a snail's pace. Can anyone give some insight. I'm about to go after it with a hair dryer. It was all drawn over clear coat.

I've got it sitting in a plastic box in front of a space heater. trying to dry it out. Its been there for about 45 min, and it is still wet...... ARGH

You may find that the gel will never dry.

It's a common fact that enamel paint on vinyl doesn't dry, so it's possible that whatever the gel is on whatever paint you used may respond the same?

I would have used some ZIG pens or something along the lines of inking pens. Probably would work better.

They will dry eventually, but as you allready noticed....it takes like forever!
I have my first try drying since some days ago now, hopefully it'll work out when I clear coat it.

I thin kgel pens are supposed to absorb into paper so on paint they dont so they stay wet.

I tried using gel pens a while ago on my Gundam model kits. That was about two years ago. I can still wipe them off with my finger... I'm not sure how the clear coast would work though, it might just make it blotchy..

Well, just checked my project and it's dry and doesn't smear off any more. Some carefull clear coating to seal it in and it's ready to go.
David@Minidreams does it all the time and if he can why shouldn't we?

How did you change his quote like that? Is this some sort of super awesome best person in the world super power? Are you most super awesome super cool holy cow you're invited over to dinner best person I've ever met now?

When you quote someone, you can delete words, sentences, whatever you want, and type whatever you want in it's place. In fact, quote me, and when the window comes up, delete what I said (between the quote tags) and type whatever you want.

Hooray! It's time to hijack a thread! :iceslolan

Edit: You beat me to it!

Hello I am David @Minidreams Inc, and the gel pens need to be used before it is cleared , The flat paint helps the ball in the pin move and it dries over night ,some times i do my detail work and then clear it like with in hours and it does not harm the gel or make it run! I have found that the Milky and Pastel colors work the best ! Mine are from mead and i go them in an 8pack at wal mart for about 11.00 usd and i use them alot !!!!:licka: i hope you have some luck with them and if it al works out for you ,i bet you use them again ! Look uder my profile at some of my posted theards and in my sig , you can see that i use them a lot ! Well Best of luck
Later David @Minidreams Inc.

It cool Will. I wiped off all of the gel pen last night. I re-did all of the lines and dots with a fine point sharpie and it is not wiping off. Now I just hope that it doesn't fade over time after it is cleared.

Before I attempted it, I did a search to see if you had ever done a tutorial. I never found anything. Thanks for the help. Next time I try something like this, I'll keep that in mind. Will it still work over the color and not the primer? Before clear coat?
